La Sportiva Glacier Mountaineering Boot - Women's

If you've ever hunched over a map you couldn't quite trust or wondered if there might be some gnarly ice blocking your route, these are the boots for you. The La Sportiva Glacier Mountaineering Boot for Women is a heavy duty boot that makes heavy duty loads feel light. With a little more flex and rocker than other burly boots, it's more comfortable on long hikes when you have to carry a lot of gear. They can handle any terrain you might encounter in a week on the mountain. If the trail leads over a snowfield or onto a glacier you can slap on crampons and travel with confidence. The Glacier will even do light mountaineering and it climbs alpine ice comfortably. *AVAILABLE FOR NORTH AMERICAN SHIPMENT ONLY.

Bottom Line: If you want a burly boot for big loads and might have to scramble across some snowfields you just found it.

Great All 'rounder

By:
October 25, 2009

I picked these up for my wife as an all 'round, all purpose boot. They are set up very well with Perwanger leather which is the best stuff in my opinion. The have an incredibly durable sole with plenty of traction. I don't know that I would get into much terrain needing crampons with them but they'll do fine for everything else. They fit as La Sportiva's typically do so they're a little narrow and true to size in the length. They come fairly stiff soled but pretty comfy straight out of the box.

I need something that does very well on ice - like 'black'

I need something that does very well on ice - like 'black' ice? Any experiences with these boots and tough ice?

Are you using these for just getting around town? Any boot with a stiff lugged sole like this will do OK, but you really want traction spikes or something similar you can just throw over the top of your shoes/boots. No boot sole does well on black ice!

Great ankle support

By:
November 1, 2009

These are definitely heavier than standard hiking boots, but I've been wearing them all summer for work and my feet feel great. Never had trouble breaking them in and they really wrap around your ankles for support. Used them as wildland fire boots as well, but started to notice the rubber on the toe part is kind of peeling back probably from a lot of contact with ash.

Write your question here...I have owned a pair of Sportiva Boots

Write your question here...I have owned a pair of Sportiva Boots forever. They are dying. Which of these boots comes close to replacing it? The old ones say "Trekking" 39 1/2 R 992 on the tongue. I think they are a woman's boot, but don't really know that for a fact. They are 7 incehs tall. I have worn them 3 to 6 days a week for so many years, I have forgotten when I bought them, maybe 5 or 6 years ago. help?

Perfect year round boot

By:
January 31, 2007

My husband purchased these boots for me. I needed a boot that would work well in both winter and summer weather. So far this winter I have not had cold feet, there were no break in pains or blisters. This is a great boot, I use them 1-2 hikes per week. No complaints from this newby hiker!

wow! no break in required and comfy too!

By:
February 25, 2008

Amazing that these heavy duty backpacking boots required no break in and are comfy too. I took the time before the purchase to walk around for about an hour in two sizes and listened to my feet. Glad I did. I did not need to "break them in" and their first outside tour was on the PCT with a 40lb pack and 12 miles. NO worries, no fatiqued body parts either; and they felt great. They are warm in winter, I wear Dahlgreen backpacking socks and just can't praise the combo enough. The boots are quite "grippy" and stable on scree and loose ground, including ice. They have performed well during the summer and aren't too hot. I like the lacing system as it allows for locking tension at various points and does not come loose. I have a high instep AND arch, these allow room for orthotics and don't crush the top of my foot (instep). Loved them so well, I bot a second pair when they went on sale. (Oh yeah, they're pretty too!)

Sportiva's rock

By:
July 9, 2008

Brand new and into the backcountry in the Canadian Rockies for three days of hard core mountaineering. These boots performed like stars for me as we did glacier travel and an apline mountaineering route to summit the Vice-President in Little Yoho Valley in Banff National Park. Fabulous! Thanks for the great on-line advice as well when I was purchasing as I was able to pick the right size once I realized these ran a bit big. I ended up being a whole size smaller than normal. Roomy toe box was perfect for my D width foot! Happy Camper in the Canadian Rockies!

Good deal, maybe need to break in first.

By:

I took these on a 10 mile soft snow/some ice hike up two 14ers in Colorado. They are made to work well with neumatic crampons, which I had to buy at a local outdoors store (REI didn't have enough of a selection in stock) in order to get a pair that fit my smaller (women's 8) feet without hacksawing them. I didn't actually use the crampons with them yet, but they will work well when I do.

They gave my feet several blisters half-way into the hike, which doesn't typically happen with my other hiking shoes (I don't usually use actual high top hiking boots, in summer months). I think it would've been helpful to break them in before hand, and/or to tape my toes before hiking in them, to prevent hot spots.

These fit true to size - I ordered a size 39 and I normally wear a women's 8.
