La Sportiva FC 1.1 Hiking Shoe - Men's

Some say ‘just wear your trail runners,’ but running shoes aren’t built for hiking. So, La Sportiva made the Men’s FC 1.1 Hiking Shoe to get the job done. These lightweight shoes provide the additional support you need when you get out in the backcountry with a pack on your back. Plus, you get the durability of Nubuck uppers and the long-wearing performance of Vibram soles.

Bottom Line: Light hikers, not cross-over running shoes.

Great Off-Road Shoe

By:

If your definition for a "hiking shoe" is just something comfy and "cool looking" to wear around town, these are not it. They have the stiffness (and support) of a true hiking shoe.
Sizing-wise, i found them a tiny bit small. If I were wearing thick winter socks, then I think they would be too snug. Of course, if I needed thick winter socks I would likely be wearing boots...
Just my $.02

I am looking for a good pair of light weight hiking shoes. I

I am looking for a good pair of light weight hiking shoes. I am in the process of going light-weight. I primarily hike/backpack in the Appalachian regions of NC, SC, and GA. How quickly do these dry? Are they true to size? How is the arch support? I have fairly moderate case of plantar fasciitis and therefore need GOOD arch support, along the lines of what a pair of Chaco sandals offers. Are there any advantages of the Gore-Tex version of this shoe aside from the immediate obvious?

Just got mine in the mail 3 days ago. All I can tell you as of yet is that they fit exactly true to size for me. I almost always wear a 10.5 (Vasque, Asics, & Chaco) so I ordered the 10.5 and they fit great. Fairly nice shoe too! I can not wait to test them on the trail. I have a feeling that I am really going to love them.

As good as advertised

By:
June 4, 2009

Alright, I have logged on a good 80 hiking miles in these now and bagged a handful of peaks, time for the review. Traction is great, they hold on the Utah granite, powdered trails, the slippery quartz and could possibly stomp a small animal without issue. The movement in them, use of materials, is stellar. By taking the leather out of the points of tension where you walk it makes for an out of the box "break-in" period. The laces hold well, I have yet to have had to tie again while on the trail and the shoe has a nice heel lock preventing your toe from hitting the end of the shoe. I opted for these over the gtex version as there are not a lot of streams and rivers to cross in the high mountains of Utah during June-October. I treated them with Nikwax and they were good to go. The other observation I made is my feet stayed much dryer in these shoes than they did in my previous pairs of hikers—Garmont Eclipse and Nagevi.

Great shoe

By:

I've put about 50 miles on this shoe in couple of weeks hiking in and around the bay area.

Prior to these shoes, I used the Merrell Chameleon Stretch for a couple of years and was very happy with those but i might never go back. I tend to run down trails sometimes and this shoe provides good support for that. This shoe is well built with great grip and sturdy enough for lightweight packs. I recommend this shoe if is looking for a hiking shoe which doesn't need to be broken in and will be used for day hikes or short overnight trips.
