Line Prophet 90 Alpine Ski - 2009

Open up the throttle anywhere on the mountain when you're riding the Line Prophet 90 Alpine Ski. This ski's versatile dimensions (125 / 90 /113mm) give you a stable platform for back bowls with quick edge-to-edge performance in the trees. The Prophet 90's maple core and Metal Matrix give this ski ample torsional stiffness to charge your favorite steeps without sacrificing easy turn initiation or weight. Ride this Line twintip in soft pow, hardpack, bumps, and on ice—the freeride (firm) flex provides control at ridiculous speeds.

Bottom Line: Break the speed limit on groomers, hop into the trees for freshies, then hit the bumps.

It is a little heavy, since it is an all mountain ski, but it is something that will more add stability in the park, than just mank your park riding.

The 172. Actually I would say if you are advanced, I would look for a ski a little longer. The 172 will feel comfortable though, and have the float and stability for your size.

True all mountain

By:
January 15, 2009

For all snow conditions (and I mean ALL), there isn't a better ski than the Prophet 90. Maybe you could argue for others, but the price of the Lines will put them over the top in my opinion. I'm a 5'10" 195 instructor in CO and I ski the 172s. I would get better performance at speed with the 179s but I think that I need the shorter skis for turn shape variability and bump performance. That doesn't mean I can't open it up on a steep groomer, though. I've had over 40 days so far this season on them and they feel like an extension of my body at this point. From wedging with some level 2 kids to the steep and deep they literally do it all. Just be prepared for all the "what kind of skis are those?" questions on the lift.

Great Ski For The East

By:
November 7, 2008

I ski all over New England, so I needed a ski that could handle the ice at Canon, but the Pow at Jay Peak, and this ski does it incredibly well. A Good amount of float in the tree's at Jay, and plenty stiff enough for carving at speed at Canon. Buy them and you won't be disappointed.

Best ski for the Northeast

By:
March 4, 2009

This ski is straight up ridiculous in the Notheast. Perfect for the deep stuff at Jay Peak, rips groomers at Sunday River. Can really lean into these on the groomers and feel 100% confident these will hold up. This ski loves GS turns on groomers and floating through pow in the trees. I was a bit concerned at first about how they would handle in the bumps - but those concerns were quickly hushed on the first top to bottom bump run I did on these. Can't wait to see how they hold up in CO next week!

Hi I have narrowed my ski search down to the volkl bridge and the line prophet. Just looking for an opinion and sizing and binding recomendations. I am an advanced skier and 5'11 175 and growing.

Out of these two skis I prefer the Volkl Bridge. I would recommend mounting these skis +2 cm with Marker Jesters or Griffons, depending on where you set your din. I’m 6’3” 185lbs and would only buy the 185cm length and mount them with the Jesters. The 177cm length would be a good fit for you now but if you think you are going to grow over 6 feet tall in the next year or two you might consider buying the 185cm to grow into.

I am 5'4", 155 lbs. More interested in versatilty powder, crud, groomers, bumps than fast GS turns. Was thinking about 179cm, then saw Tom from Colorado's post at 195lbs he is skiing 172's. Makes me think that I shouldn't go any longer than 172. I ski Pacific NW and Mt Shasta. Any opinions?

This ski is definitely a true twin. That means it gives up some of it's effective edge. Consider that when you're sizing this ski. FWIW, my current skis are 182 and I wouldn't think of sizing down to the 179 Prophet. If the 186 shows back up on BC, you can bet I am placing an order.

Demo'd them yesterday

By:
January 19, 2009

I demo'd these skis yesterday and they rip. I live on the east coast and was fortunate enough to get a east coast powder day (6inches, lol) during which to demo them. I was blown away with these skis immediately. The metal matrix makes them ski a lot bigger than they are but doesn't damper its ability to get from edge to edge quickly. The skis floated pow on the side of the trail and in the trees without difficulty. They were snappy enough to make fast confidence inspiring turns in the trees. At the end of the afternoon the trails were all bumped up and these skis were stiff enough to charge through them without blinking. These skis seriously charged threw bumped up powder that would have thrown my old skis (salomon 1080's), ass over tea cup.

I've always demoed before buying but I have yet to read a bad review of this ski. My only question is size. I'm 28yo 6'2" 195 lbs and an expert aggressive skier. I'm going between the 179 and the 186. I ski 70/30 trees to groomers and am still a sucker for big fast GS turns (racing roots). Any ideas?

i am a former advanced skier but have been boarding for the past 13 years. i'm wanting to get back to skis and have heard great things about the prophet 90. terrain-wise i mostly hit up Tahoe, do about 60% groomers, 30% pow/trees, 10% park. i'm 5'9" 140lbs. does the prophet 90 in a 179cm seem about right for me? maybe i should go shorter since i'm just getting back into skiing?

I am similar to you in that I took a long layoff from skiing (but learned when I was three) to snowboard exclusively. Just got back into two-planking last season. I like how the Prophets feel very snowboardy (if that makes any sense).

Most versitile far and away is the line prophet. If you really like volkl and want more versitility go with the bridge. The mantra is nice but is more of a pow ski. Don't know too much about the snoop daddy but the lines would probably be your best bet. As for size it depends some what on skill. I would probably go with 177 but that's just me. Hope this helps.

Do you think the Prophet 90 would be too close to my Mantra for the money and hassle? What else in a narrower platform is great in bumps and firm conditions. Hate to somewhat duplicate my Mantra and Obsetheds with only a little bit narrower ski. It's amazing though how the construction of skis even in similar widths can have a very different feel. My mantra is a great ripper but definitley a harsh ride compared to other skis.

The prophet 90 is by far the best of the group, another great ski is the 4frnt msp a stiffer ski but the best groomer twin out there. I would stay away from salomon this year, lots of reports of their ski's falling apart after 12 to 15 days on them, snapping, edges blown out and delaminating problems and salomon not doing a real good job replacing them.

Of course they are, they are made by line... The 90 is a directional metal cap twin for use all over the mountain but excels in hard snow conditions. The blend is a side wall constuction freestyle/freeride twin aimed at more backcountry/jib/ powder skiing. the blend is fatter and quite a bit softer and has similar dimentions to the prophet 100.

I am a huge line fan but in this case i would go for the hazmats, they are softer, fatter, and more playful. The 90,s being stiffer will give you better hard snow performence, but not by much. any where else the hazmat will shine also the bambo core makes them so lively and light.

Hi this Question is for willie2272186. Im looking at the prophet 100 and the 90... The great debate. Im 6'2" 223lbs and im looking for a ski that I can ski everywhere. But im afraid that if I go with the 100's im going to regret it because of its performance on hardpack I just cant make up my mind. Does the 100 loose alot of hardpack performance compared to if I were to buy the 90? And I have read all of the reviews and I cant tell if it performes well on ice or not. Thanks

By:
October 30, 2008

Flag

No the 100 will not ski as well on ice as the 90, the 90 is quite a bit stiffer then the 100 so it wins there. As for groomers they both ski it well you can just lay down big fat GS turns. The advantage of the 100 is that it feels so much more stable because of the extra width under foot, pluse if you get in any powder or trees it floats well. they both have metal in them but the 100 busts the crud better because of the width. Go 100 once you get used to the width you will know why its one of the best skis on the market and then you will want something wider. If you go 100 get the 186cm for your size as they do tend to ski a little shorter.

The factory mount on these is 89mm or 3 1/4 " back from center, it is a directional ski so it mounts futher back. you could mount it maybe 1 inch foreward of recomended to help it ski switch but i would not go any more then that foreward of recomended.

Yo hombre. If you are looking for a quick ski, with decent float, I think the Kung Fujas might be more up your alley (almost exactly like the seth from two years ago). Not to mention the K2 skis are vertical gosidewalls, unlike the cap construction on the lines...Go K2 obsethed, the kung fujas are not fat enough for deep powder there only 95mm where the obsethed are 108mm BIG difference in pow. Also only the prophet seris and the price point park skis by LINE are cap constuction the rest are side wall constuction. maybe you can look at the new line blends there 100mm in the waist and more aimed at all moutain @ freestye sking. The prophet 100 is the quickes of this group it will work well in the park also because of its light weight thats why its regarded as one of best skis you can buy. But the K2 obsethed will work the best in powder. also look at the 4frnt vct such a fun ski, just so expensive.

For a twin tip they can handle speed @ ice pretty well, plus they carve like a gs ski. But keep in mind that no twin tip ski is going to handle ice like a race ski,and because of the raised tail they sometimes don't hold an edge as long. But if you are a good skier you sould be able to ski them just as well. prophet 90's are very stable at speed and love to carve. IMO if you have never skied twin tips and try them, you will never go back to conventional ski,s. twin tips open up a whole new world of sking for you.

The 90's do carve better on hardpack and in icey conditions, but if you are a good skier you won,t notice that much difference with the 100,s. The big difference will be in powder where the 100 will float much better when it gets deeper then boot deep. Also the 100 is just as quick in tree,s as the 90 but is so much more stable when launching off jumps. If you plan on using it 90% off piste go prophet 100 as the 90 is more off a on-piste ski. Also i would not even consider the other two skis if you plan on sking more off-piste as they are more on-piste grommer ski's that will work well in the tree,s if the snow is not too deep. The mantra is a stiff ski that rips the hardpack @ ice but not so much off-piste.
