Line Chronic Alpine Ski - 2007

More than a decade's worth of innovation led Line to create the Chronic Alpine Ski. Take these twintips into the park, pipe, or ski anywhere on the mountain. A narrower design on these skis (111/85/108mm) and a snappy maple Macroblock core create quick edge-to-edge transfers for precise feel in the pipe, park, groomers, or bumps—anywhere on the mountain, really. ABS slantwall construction isolates vibrations when you're heading for that massive tabletop in the park. Fatty base and edges shield your twintips from nasty early core shots and edge blow outs—they'll also endure punishment from handrail jibs longer than most edges.

Bottom Line: Mount up a pair and get high on the Line Chronic Alpine Skis.

Super sick

For the price, these skis are sick sick sick sick sick. They absolutely rip in the park, soft enough that they have a little forgiveness when your stomping hard on your tips. They can handle themselves on the groomers and bumps pretty well, but they really stand out when your on the park or just hitting small-medium cliff/jump lines. Only place they are bad is in powder, you have to lean back like crazy to keep these guys floating, but with an 85 underfoot, what can you expect? And the base is almost bulletproof, I rode these in very marginal conditions without a care, hitting rocks almost every run, and the base has no marks beyond aesthetic. For the price, you cannot beat this all mountain park oriented ski.

sik skis!

to frame my comments, this is my first set of park-friendly skis and I'm coming from a pair of 04-05 apache recons

That said, I really like my 171's. They're super-responsive and super-springy, so I can load 'em into a turn and they'll push the rest of the way through on their own. They're stable at high speeds provided the snow is smooth, but they get squirrelly in crud. They're really not stiff enough for the heavy crusty wind-blown stuff either (no surprise). I've started messing around with 'em in the pipe and they're friendly enough that someone without much freestyle experience (me) doesn't make a complete ass of himself. I've already managed to put a couple of pretty serious gouges in the bases that would've been core-shots on my old recons, but Line isn't joking when they say they've beefed up the bases 'cause mine were good to go again after some quick ptex work. If you're looking for a great all-around ski then these fit the bill, especially since they're a good $200 cheaper than their competitors, just don't plan on taking 'em off-piste or anywhere with questionable snow conditions.
