LEKI Luau Trekking Poles - 1 Pair - Women's - 2008

Leki made the Women's Luau Trekking Poles with 15-degree bends in the upper sections so your wrists maintain a relaxed position instead of feeling tweaked at unnatural angles. Since it doesn't make sense to have man-sized grips and excess weight from length you don't need, Leki made the Luau Poles with smaller, narrower grips and shorter lengths than unisex or men's models. I'm a new user of poles, but have to say that they do not stay locked in position. They loosened up a couple of times on my hike up and down, just a 4k jaunt. I tightened them as much as possible but it was futile. Had to keep checking to make sure they were not going to collapse on me!! Oh well, my fault, I should have heeded to the advice of these reviews!!!

HEy folks, Iam trying to lighten up my poles. I am convinced that the black diamond clips last longer. In the past the locking system on these Lekis like these have not. Did they improve the system? Does anyone have any negative experiences with this system. The weight is perfect.

I have a pair of Leki poles and my complaint is that the "super lock system" is not to super they work by a stopper getting friction on the inside of the pole and that causes it to move on a screw and expand creates more friction and eventually locks down. The problem is that the stopper moves around on the screw and sometimes get so lose that it cant build up friction and therefore you have to take the poles apart and do it by hand. Its a real pain this is a problem i seem to have all the time until i figured out how to do it i was lost so really i would recommend a different pole. But thats just me I dont hear many complaints so it could just be my poles. So as far as i know they havent improved that system but i think complaints are isolated.

These were my first pair of trekking poles and I took them up to Mount Shasta and I have to say I'm a little disappointed. Now I'm not sure if these poles are the kind you're not supposed to bring up there but I found that they came undone after I thought I had tightened them pretty tight...twice! By undone, I mean they became loose and ended up past the maximum extension (which they don't recommend) when I'd pull them out of the snow. After this happened twice, I got a little paranoid about them loosening while I was up there so I kept checking on them. Even though it says you can rotate them 360 degrees and still find it locked tight, I found this not to be true. Next poles I get will be the kind with locking clasps, not the twist ones like these. For the price, I expected more.

A women's specific fit runs under the general assumption that women have smaller hands (my wife is an excellent example--tiny hands!) and are often times shorter than men. They reduce the size of the grips to make them more comfortable, and they remove some of the length in the poles to save weight not unlike women specific sleeping pads (the length-weight issue.)

As to usage, my aunt does a lot of roadwork with nordic walking poles. You may want to look into those if you're not going to do any hiking offroad with these--the carbide tips won't help you as much on tar or concrete.
