Kokatat Sea O2 Life Vest

Pulling on the Kokatat Sea O2 Life Vest front tab releases a CO2 cartridge into the hidden internal air chamber and inflates this PFD for added flotation. While the Sea 02 Life Vest provides 7.5lb of buoyancy without air, it increases to an impressive 22.5lb when inflated. Kokatat added a manual inflate valve to conserve CO2 or to be used in emergencies. More along the in-the-boat side of things, this PFD comes with a mesh back to add comfort while paddling, and two front pockets hold all your on-the-water necessities.

least bulky,lots of flotation

Kokotat has a real winner here with a vest that you forget it's on yet has very safe, adjustable flotation. I have had one of these since they were introduced and have used it on many long paddling trips. This spring in Greece I capsized in the middle of a 15 mile crossing between islands in big rolling, breaking swells. When I found myself in the water holding on to my boat I thought about pulling the ripcord to inflate the vest but realized I was floating fine without it and that the extra bulk of an inflated vest would make the re-entry more cumbersome. What I learned is I'd only use the vest inflated if I would end up spending much more time in the water.
The one big pocket holds my EBIRB with expandable room for other stuff and the smaller pocket with stretch sides holds my VHF radio firmly. Both pockets have plastic D's for tethering contents.
I especially like the fact the lower back of the vest is just mesh and straps not interfering with my seat back.
The vest is very adjustable for fit and comfort. Overall the ultimate sea kayaking life jacket!
