The Kelty Yellowstone 2 is an easy to set-up economical 3-season tent built to weather years in the field. Setting up this free-standing tent isn't quite as simple as flipping a switch, but the pole clips are nearly as quick when attaching them to the two Fiberglass poles. The design is roomy, creating a comfortable living space to stretch out in after a long day of hiking. The mesh ceiling and the side vents provides ample ventilation. Taped seams keep water out in case the clouds open up, and internal storage pockets organize essentials like socks and non-essentials like harmonicas.
Bottom Line: Get a room, with a view, or just take one with you.
This tent is so easy to set up. I was able to put it all up, tent, rain fly, gear loft, and all in less than 15 minutes... before I even saw that directions were sent with the tent. Its a little heavy, so I've only used it for car camping. I am going to replace the fiberglass poles with aluminum or carbon fiber, then this tent will become my backpacking tent. Probably going to add some waterproofing to the seams before I do that though, just in case...
e-z assembly & take down, e-z store. used it this summer in heat, rain & wind, wicked & vented well & was sturdy. spacious enough with decent storage pockets. liked the screened 'moonroof'.
I wouldnt use this tent for it but you could. You would have to seam seal all the seams and make sure to use a footprint so you dont get a hole in your tent floor but thats the same for any tent
Got this tent little over a year ago, used dozen times or so and it has been great! Used in light rain nice and dry even though I didn't have a footprint. Used in pretty good wind (20-25mpg constant) and held up well. Little gear shelf is nice and side pockets are great. only down side is if using for 2 people there is no vestibule and def not enough room for 2 people + 2 sets of gear. but is Great for 1.
I just got back from RAGBRAI, a huge bike ride across Iowa (12,000 people). I am not a big camper and I found this tent incredibly easy to set up - even easier if you stake down the corners first. It rained two nights, but I stayed dry. I am VERY pleased!
An exceptional bargain, this tent has been my main tent for solo camping and is a perfect fit for myself and my gear. It was a little tight for my wife and myself and the absence of a vestibule caused a little more effort in stowing our gear under a tarp. On family trips the Yellowstone fits two children and their paraphernalia well!
Set-up and take-down is a breeze ,the tent stores small and light as well as withstanding some VERY rainy days and nights in the B.C. rainforest.
I highly recommend this tent for a casual, cozy camp.
This tent was insanely easy to put together and the ventilation was great. If fit me and all of my gear perfectly; however, it would be REALLY tight with 2 people. Good value.
Kelty has a great lakeside camping tent. Its affordable and easy to set up. Its not the best for backpacking though. This tent needs to have the aluminum poles like backpacking tents. I chose this tent over the Teton 2 due to price and design. The Yellowstone 2 has way more ventilation. After sleeping both tents, this is the one for me. I will be looking for replacement poles, and ditching the fiberglass ones it comes with.
Great deal! It packs really small, pretty light for the price.
First time I used it, it poured all night! I was perfectly dry and I didn't have the foot print down. Its well ventilated yet dry, lots of pockets, a little hook in the center ceiling was perfect for hanging small flashlight for nighttime.
If sleeping one person, its great! Gear and everything can fit in! With two people gear will be tight, but you could make it work.
There are two small down sides, theres only one side door, if sleeping two, one person may have to crawl over the over to get out at night.
Also the floor is pretty thin, I'd definitely want to use the footprint as not to damage the tent floor if you accidentally setup on a couple small rocks or sharp roots.
There have been several times when we've gotten sidetracked on the trail and ended up putting this in the dark. It was never a problem. There are only two poles that shoot across the middle and one for the rain fly. The fly also clips straight to the dome where the stakes hold down the tent. Plenty of room for 2, but I would recommend leaving your pack out if at all possible. If this is impossible, you will have to either use it as a pillow or footrest. There definitely won't be enough room for 2 people and 2 packs.
This is a great tent for your scout. It's light, easy to put together, freestanding and has a large fly. I do wish it had larger vents but I don't think the kids will notice.
This is a great tent. Its roomy, good construction, great price, light, quick to set up/take down. I like to hang out above 14,000ft. And this will be the tent I take from now on. Thank you for a great sales/service.
This is a great tent and its cheap! This tent could be at home next to the lake or where I took it, up to 12,000ft. The only thing I could think to ask for would be the tent stakes need to be aluminum or titanium. Overall, this is a great tent for a great price.
is always welcomed by a mountaintop hiker. I recently purchased the Yellowstone 2 and have to say that so far I am very pleased with the end product. The first night I set it up (which, by the way, is a piece of cake) was upon a rocky ridge at Red River Gorge, KY. There was a good breeze up there, a constant 20+ mph, and I awoke around 5am to probably 40 mph gusts. The tent shook a little, but that was it.
It packs up fairly small, looks cool and is the perfect size and weight for 1 person. It could fit a couple comfortably, and you might, depending on if your a bear or a twig, be able to keep your packs inside.
When buying this tent I was looking for an easy set and take-down because I really don't have much time to spare, and that is just what I got. This tent is fantastic for a quick camping trip for a weekend and durable enough for the elements in all kinds of weather. Thanks for the suggestion of the Kelty Yellowstone Tent, that was exactly what I needed.
Although a little heavier than other backpacking tents, this tent was great on a recent trip. It is sturdy and very quick/easy to set up. I am very happy with my purchase.
This tent has performed quite well; set up is a breeze. On my first night out it rained steadily for almost 12 hours and I only had one place in a floor seam that leaked - I was very pleased. Only one thing though, I don't feel like the tent truly has enough space for two people to sleep comfortably let alone put any gear inside. In my opinion, it should be billed as a one person tent. But it's great nonetheless.
Great design and construction; The 'Pole Clips' are a great idea! 5 minute setup time by yourself. 4 days from ordering to receiving tent.... THANKYOU!!!!
The Yellowstone 2 is nothing flashy; a simple design, effective Price and a great nights sleep. We actually stayed at a cabin in New York's Adirondack mountains this summer and the last couple nights sleep were spent in the Yellowstone 2 outside of the cabin. Oddly enough I slept much better in the Yellowstone 2. Though it takes just five minutes to put up, the best perk is the price. This is a quality tent for everyone.
Very simple tent to put up even for a first time camper as myself. About the size of a double bed on the inside. My husband, myself and our little dog fit inside well. It kept us completely dry in a 15 minute downpour.
Easy to set up and a decent all around small tent. A little cozy for two people and their gear, but just push those packs outside. Haven't really tested it in rain yet, but Kelty is a decent brand.
