Kelty Rio Grande 8 Tent 8-Person 3-Season - 2006

The Kelty Rio Grande 8 Tent is a lot of tent for your dollar. This sucker will hold your whole family and their gear with ease. Its rectangular footprint is easy to place, and four-pole construction is easy to get together. The cavernous interior can be divided in half with the removable privacy panel, and each side will still have its own door. The Rio Grande's half-fly attaches to the tent with buckles, so it can go on fast in case of an unexpected shower. Fiberglass poles are solid, slide smoothly into place, and make this tent the biggest shelter for your money around.

Bottom Line: "The Barn" is a tempting name for it.

Big tent, but beware of quirks

We took the tent camping last weekend and it was pretty easy to put up. In fact, you can move it around easily if it's not in the right spot after you get it all assembled. Roomy and spacious, we fit two air mattresses and three cots, with room leftover for bags and gear. The windows allow nice breezes to flow through. Beware, however, the zippers on the front doors are easily snagged in the material, pretty much every time. Also, we had three holes in the floor at the end of the weekend. Customer Service is taking care of us, but next time I would protect the floor with a tarp, or the matching foot you can buy from Kelty. We bought this because we have another Kelty tent for four people my husband loves. We'll see how it holds up over the next year.

Unfortunately no. This style was discontinued. For another big Kelty tent, check out the Mantra 7, Green River 6 or Villa 6.

Since we have only three seasons on the Oregon Coast, this is the perfect tent for our needs. Its secondary function is a part of our emergency preparedness kit. With a quick set up and room for us and our two large dogs, it looks like it will serve us well.
