Simply put, the Kelty Mantra 6 Tent is the first word in durable, comfortable family camping tents. Unlike lesser family tents, the Mantra uses high quality DAC aluminum poles and a mix of clip and sleeve construction, for a mix of toughness and ventilation in wind and weather for years to come. You don't buy a Mantra for the weekend, you buy one of these collapsible mansions for life. Double doors, each with noiseless zipper pulls, let everyone do their nighttime business without disturbing the rest of the tent, and an immense vestibule (accessible from either door) holds all your extra gear under shelter. Taped floor seams mean the Mantra can literally be sitting in a couple inches of water and nobody inside will notice. The Mantra's poles and clips are color-coded so you aren't standing at the campsite scratching your head, and thoughtful details like the interior organizer wall give a level of polish seldom seen in a car camping tent. If you're camping with a big group, or just want a lot of space, the Mantra should be the first tent you grab for.
Bottom Line: Just keep repeating to yourself: Take the Mantra.
We love the design of this tent for family camping, but were disappointed in the durability of the fabric. The poles are very, very snug and seem to exert too much pressure on the outer sleeve of the tent. We had holes appearing in the fabric after only a couple of uses. I patched them up because we like the layout of the tent( the rainfly makes a great "front porch" for gear storage overnight). But next time we buy a tent, I will look at another brand.
Tent big just split open at the seams 9 inch hole. Could not wait to reorder. Had to leave on a trip asap. This tent makes a good base camp. I will be spending 5 months in it at a stationary site. Heavy rains pushed the fly onto the tent (on the back side). It did not leak a drop but just in case, I secured three additional tent stakes to pull the fly away from the tent for a rain proof stay. The tent has a great design and more than enough room for computer, printer, table, chair, refrigerator, fan, portable dressers, night stand and bed. It's a good setup.
We love this tent! It's big, so it's great for car camping family trips. We haven't experienced high winds or rain yet, but so far so good, and I don't expect any problems because of the design. It's just not worth getting a cheaper tent that is not going to last.
Awesome tent! Very sturdy. One piece of advice is to ensure you set it up at home before the trip first as the poles are very snug the first time out of the bag. The good part is that there is no sagging. The bad is that it is a tough stretch the first few times getting the poles attached. It is the snug fit that makes the tent sturdy and dry though so no complaints. I highly recommend the footprint that is sold separately.
Great tent. We used it for car camping. I wouldn't consider it for any sort of hike. We also bought the footprint. Together we didn't have any problems when it rained. We also did not have any condensation problems due to the fact that it is well ventilated.
