Kelty's Gunnison 4.1 4-Person 3-Season Tent loves anything from starlit summer evenings to wet autumn backpacking trips. Kelty placed the Gunnison's mesh panels strategically, providing ventilation, decreased condensation, which keeps you from feeling like you're spending the night in a cave. Even in the dark, it's easy to secure the aluminum DAC Pressfit poles to the individual clips for set-up, and the Swivel Hub System increases stability and ease of set up. Configured with two doors and two vestibules, the Gunnison 4.1 Tent's floorplan maximizes the available living space. Other features include taped seams to keep water out and internal storage pockets to help organize essentials. Kelty also added a gear loft, putting your treats, iPod, or prophylactics close at hand while you stargaze.
A terrific three season four person tent. The sandstone and muted burgundy colors blend in very nicely with the environment. The only short-coming I have found is the fact the windows and door opening do not have zip closures. Warmth might become an issue if you stretched your seasonal usage to 45 degrees or colder. I have owned a half dozen car camping and wilderness tents over the years and setting up the Kelty Gunnison 4.1 is VERY easy. I especially like the door and window sizes and locations.
This tent is freaking amazing! First off, its a nice and big. If you are really comfortable with spooning with people, and you would happen to have 4 boys and 4 girls, this tent works, but of course, it is only built for 4 people, which does the job wonderfully. Haven't backpacked with it yet, but looking forward to it.
If you turn the tent 90 degrees and sleep length-wise - at 100 inches - this tent is the ultimate tall-man tent. Each person gets a vestibule and even an extra long sleeping bag doesn't touch the tent at head or tow. I have two of these tents - one for me and my wife and another for the kids. This tent is quite roomy for two tall or large adults or 4 kids.
Got this mid-way through a 33-day trip across the American southwest, mostly dry camping on BLM land. I set it up on sand, grass, rock, and hardpan. The first time I set it up, I had to do it in the dark in high winds amid cactus without having read the directions.(This tent was an emergency replacement for a cheaper one that didn't survive the harsh conditions.) Aside from the fact that it is extremely light (be sure to secure at least one corner before erecting the poles), it was a breeze. On clear nights, this tent is fantastic. The sides prevent water and dirt from blowing in and the mesh panels allow for some spectacular star-gazing. The two sided entry is fantastic. My ONLY complaint about this product is that the rain cover is difficult to align properly. Twice I connected 2 of the cover's snaps only to find out they didn't align with the door. They could have avoided all of the confusion by color-coding the snap-locks or the webbing at each corner. I'm going to put a splash of paint on each one.
While probably too heavy for backpacking (and too large a footprint as well), it does pack well. The pole, stake and tent bags are roomy enough to stuff the tent in easily. WARNING, the tent stakes are cheap and bend easily. Get yourself some sturdy ones for a buck at the nearest discount/outdoor store. You're going to need them even the first time.
This is a fantastic car camping tent and roomy for two adults. I'm sure this is going to be a long-lasting tent. I recommend using a tarp or footprint to increase the longevity of the tent bottom.
This tent is meant to fit 4 people from head-to-foot using the 82" width. If from head-to-foot you use the 100" length, this tent is the ultimate 2-man, tall-man tent. When used this way, each person gets a door and a vestibule. All tent manufacturers under-estimate their capacity. As I use it, this tent is the best in its class.
The wife and used this tent to camp along the La Poudre River North of Ft Collins. This tent is super easy to set up and has plenty of room for gear. Could be a tad heavy for some if using on an extended hikes. For me the weight is well worth it as this tent has plenty of room for 2 and even 4 with limited gear. This tent is bombproof and can be set up in under 5 minutes easy with limited experience. The tent is not pink.
Loved this tent. Roomy, lots of vents. The two doors are fantastic. Very easy to set up, even after a few beers, and totally by myself. Two criticisms: pegs are very weak - like was said before, and I had problems with the footprint made for it which allowed water to collect between it and the tent floor, and eventually seep through the floor. Not sure what to do about that one, except not use the foot print.
Easy to put up...we're talking 2-3 minutes for the entire process. The Kelty Gunnison 4.1 tent is fairly tall so it was convenient to get all the sleeping bags and other stuff laid out and organized. Very light, easy to put away.
this tent was super easy to setup .Provided nice height and ventilation .It was strong enough to hold in the heavy rains and wind we got.Absolutely no water came in.Best tent ever
