my son is well within the weight limits, but it seems like his legs have to be bent to fit in...can a child hang their legs out the sides comfortably? Is there something I'm missing?

For bigger kids you definitely want to have their legs hang out the sides. You might want to take a look at the Stirrup accessory to give your son a place to rest his feet: http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/Kelty-Kids-Carrier-Stirrups/KEL0342M.html#reviews

Kids love it

By:
December 8, 2008

We've use this pack on long hikes and the kids seem to love it. I also put my 2.5 year old (32 lbs) in it to mow the lawn. It's comfortable for me and seems to balance the weight well. It must be comfortable for our 2.5 year old as well, because he falls asleep in it all the time. It folds up, but not very compact. We're glad we bought it!

Any pros / cons between the Kelty FC 1.0 and FC 2.0. I would mainly be using this for half to full day hikes. My daughter is currently about 23 lbs. Thanks Steve! I went with the FC 3.0, took it out on a test run and my daughter loves it (she got mad when I tried to take her out).

They're both great carriers. I don't have any cons personally. The only difference really is storage capacity. The 2.0/3.0 hold a ton of stuff. I've been really surprised at how much stuff you can store. If you're looking at the FC 2.0 you may consider the FC 3.0. The only difference between them is that the 3.0 comes with the sun/rain canopy. We have two of the 3.0's and the canopies have been priceless. Just food for thought.Hope that helps.

Daughter loves it

By:
December 8, 2008

We just recently used our new purchase to go hiking in the hills of Germany. WE LOVE IT!!! OUR DAUGHTER LOVES IT!! We plan to use it on our trip to Rome this month. Everytime our daughter sees it laying around the house she wants to get in it!! It is very comfortable to wear, even though our 20 month old is almost 30lbs. Would recommend this to anyone!! It is kinda pricey... trust me i looked around to find a cheaper brand.. it is by far worth the money!!! Can't wait to go hiking again!!!

Good pack

By:
July 9, 2009

Overall it's a really good product and better than others I tested in stores. The stand is great and the baby loves riding in it. I'm a 5'7 female and the load distribution isn't optimal for me, after about a mile with my 20lb granddaughter I really feel it between my shoulder blades, so someone bigger has to carry her on the long hikes. I would definitely recommend this product though.
