Kelty rain pack cover Large

By:
August 29, 2005

The cover worked out all right on a seven day trip, it rained every day at some point in time. It kept my pack dry for the most part. It seemed like it was too small for a Gregory 5200ci pack, it just barely fit over my Therma-rest strapped on at the bottom of my pack. From above my bottle holders on the side, to just barely fitting over my Therma-rest was all exposed. If it was pouring rain that part would have been soaked. The attached stuff bag was too big which made for bulky storage, I actually put my rain jacket in there with the pack cover. My friend had a Gregory pack cover for his 7000ci Gregory that I really liked.

Great Rain Cover

By:

This is one of those times when the product made by the manufacturer is truly better than the knock-off variety you can buy at REI. Nothing against REI, I've been a member since 1973, but the Kelty rain cover is head and shoulders above the generic Duck's Back cover sold by REI. I tried both and there are subtle differences, but major. Like the fit: no comparison at all. The Kelty fits the pack, the REI was like a giant sack billowing in the wind. Then there were the straps that held the cover on the pack, unlike the REI which used a cinch cord.

If you have a Kelty pack, then get the Kelty rain cover. It DOES make a difference. Plus, it packs up smaller in it's own pocket.

You need a large for your pack and it looks like they only have regulars, so you'd either have to wait for them to get largers or just buy another brand raincover. It won't hurt if you buy anothe brand just make sure it's big enough for your pack and it should work the same!

Worked As Advertised!

Fortunately I only had to deal with rain one day out of 14 but the Rain Cover did an excellent job during the steady rain with random downpours. Kept my gear dry.

Backpack Rain Cover

By:

Great product. Have not tried it in the rain yet, but it can really be adapted to fit almost any size pack and has a self-contained pocket to store it. I keep it in my backpack so when it rains I have it to cover my pack so my books won't get wet again. It is fairly small and light, not a problem to include in the pack.

Kelty Rain Cover

By:

I bought the Kelty Backpack Rain Cover because everyone kept saying, "Oh you've GOT to get a rain cover for your pack." I hated the thoughts of shelling out around $30.00 for what I had envisioned as a glorified garbage bag. Anyway, I relented. Boy was I surprised. The quality, attention to detail and fit of the Kelty rain cover far exceeded my expectations. I would have preferred a choice of colors but I can live with the grey. It would also be nice if Kelty would incorporate into its design a place to include an identification tag. In my honest opinion, Kelty backpacks and the Kelty rain cover are excellent values and worthy of your consideration. They have not failed me yet.

Super "Fitted" backpack cover. Easy to put on and take off in a hurry. Much better fit than generic covers.
