Kayland Vertigo High Backpacking Boot - Women's

Backpacker Magazine awarded the Kayland Women’s Vertigo High Boot an Editor’s Choice Award in 2007 for its versatility on off-trail scrambles and extended treks. Thanks to a waterproof breathable eVent lining, your feet stay dry and comfortable through muddy slogs and afternoon thunderstorms. The suede leather upper features extended lacing for a tight, precise fit, and a front rubber rand for reducing abrasion on rocky terrain. Kayland also built the last with an enhanced rocker to promote a more natural rolling step.

Bottom Line: Award-winning trail performance.

Ready for the himalayas

By:

Love 'em! Fricken love them! I've been wearing them consistently as my daily boot throughout the past month, in 75 degree weather, to break them in before I go trekking for 4 months in the himalayan mountains. And they're wonderful. Light. Don't feel like potatoes weighing down on your feet. Great buouyancy to them. Takes a heck of a lot of pressure off your knees for sure. Super solid. Water proof.

Totally pleased I chose them for my expedition boot.

And when I told my husband I ordered my boot online, he pulls out his Kaylands, turns out. IDENTICAL. He used the same boot to hike the PCT. Loves 'em.

Awesome buy!

Great boots, but check size chart

By:
January 12, 2009

I generally wear a women's 8 and have a pair of Kayland Contact boots in an 8 that I love. I wore the Contacts for a lot of tramping in NZ through tons of water and mud. They fit great out of the box, kept me dry, and are perfect for my feet. When I saw the Vertigos I was really excited because the Contacts are better for summer (mesh) and I thought the Vertigos would be better for cold weather. Sadly, the sizing isn't the same. The 8 in the Vertigo is a half size too small (a UK5.5, the Contact 8 is a UK6). Buy these boots, just make sure you order the size so you don't have to exchange them!

does this boot accept cramp-ons?

does this boot accept cramp-ons?

rebecca,
This is a backpacking boot and doesn't have a front or rear welt to accept a step-in or semi-automatic crampon. You could use a strap-on crampon for occasional walking use. If you're planning on using the boots with crampons you're probably better off looking at mountaineering boots.

Vertigo High

By:
March 23, 2009

It's maiden voyage was a 40 mile hike around the Grand Canyon. I had about 50 lbs. on my back and probably could have used a boot with a bit more support. Otherwise, as a light backpacking boot it's fantastic!! I have a narrow size 10 foot and the size 10 boot fits great. I also needed an after market high-arch in-sole support rather than the manufacturers support. Plenty of toe wiggle and my heel stayed where it belonged. Once I lighten my pack a bit, closer to 40 lbs., this boot will work out nice. All-in-all the boots a keeper. If I were to continue backpacking with a pack even close to 50 lbs. though I'll have to go with a more supportive boot. Oh, and the eVent liner rocks, very breathable for desert environments, much better than gore tex.

Great Boot, Runs Very Small

By:

These boots are well made and are comfortable. I've worn them twice, once on short backpacking trip which required many stream crossings. Also it rained all night. Feet stayed dry the whole time. Am considering a more supportive insole, but seems most folks replace that anyway. I normally wear a 7.5 normal width shoe, so I ordered an 8.5 boot. Had to send it back because it was just too tight when worn with good hiking socks. The 9 fits great. I can't believe I had to order a 9, but it works.

sizing

By:
April 6, 2009

I just got my boots and wanted to agree with another person that the sizing for me was a little off. My foot measures a 7.5 women's. I wear a 8 tennis shoe. I ordered an 8 and 8.5. The 8.5, by far, fit me better!
So, I'd say go up 1/5 or 1 full size.
I love them though and can't wait to really use them!
