Karhu Spire Telemark Ski - 2008

Wondering what sweet peaks don the Karhu Spire Telemark Skis’ topsheets? Those are the drool-inducing couloirs of the Grand Teton. And with a 122mm shovel and 86mm underfoot, the Spire is ready for some serious steep slopes and tight turns. Titanal 3 metal and a 3D-Milled maple and aspen core work add torsional rigidity, direct power transfer to the edge, and bring a low swing weight, while the progressive sidecut feels nimble in the trees. You won’t find yourself sliding helplessly sideways on ice either—the Spire carves both the slick and the fluff with ease.

Bottom Line: Sidecut for tight couloirs.

I'm 6'4" 215 lbs. 45 yrs old. A Good skier but I act my age. Want to do about 3/4 backcountry (NH White Mountains; I last skied the day after Memorial Day) and 1/3 lift served. Would these skis be a good choice fro me?

Does it all with ease

This ski can pretty much answer the call of most conditions. Ideally it is my not super deep backcountry rig, with great weight, size/dimensions to ski the gnarliest ski mountaineering descents. But with a 122mm shovel it still skis the pow really well. And not to mention with some metal in the construction, really carves well, and can hold speed at the ski hill. So yeah, it really does do everything quite well.

How much do they weight? I suspect the answer is, if you have to ask it's the wrong ski.

177 is 1710g/ski. So I think its 7.5lbs for a 177 for the pair.

I've ridden K2 world pistes for years, mostly in Colorado resorts, and now want to look at Karhus. How would the Jak or the Spire compare?
