Kelty Shadehouse - 2008

Take along the freestanding Kelty Shadehouse when you plan to spend the day at the park, festival, or campground. This square Kelty shelter is tall enough to walk under and sets up easily with two DAC aluminum poles. Accessory walls (sold separately) give you additional protection from sun or rain. Guylines on the Shadehouse provide stability in breezy conditions.

Bottom Line: From parking lot to park to campground, the Kelty Shadehouse shelters you from the elements.

too small & not tall enough

I had very high hopes for this shelter. Unfortunately once set up the actual area of shade was very small. In addition, to get any kind of height out of it you had to stake the legs closer together, making the overall coverage less. With legs spread out wider than recommended my four year old was able to jump and touch the roof panel.

We need something that will withstand extreme wind conditions

We need something that will withstand extreme wind conditions near a lake, will this do?

This is a stellar shade but you need to stake it down! It the wind is too crazy it will turn this into a kite, so right next to the lake in the sandy wet soil will probably not work, just so you know. No wind then donnt worry about the stakes of course.

disappointed

Purchased 12' x 12' several months ago. Been to the desert and to soccer games. Pros: lightweight, compact packing Cons: main overhead shade panel is only 7'6" x 7'6" which does not provide enough shade, you have to purchase at least 1 side panel, 2 sides would be better. You have to stake it down, even the slightest wind will get it flying. Not easy to set up, it's awkward and I always ask my sons to help. So after $135 + $30 per side panel you can spend at least $165 for something that is very much a compromise.

Not good in winds above 12 mph

Bought this mainly for the beach but was only able to use 1 day out of 7 due to windy conditions. The poles are too light and wind pushes the poles in wrong direction.
