I took this pack to the Pecos Wilderness in New Mexico this past summer and it was great. It's very comfy, and easily fit all of my supplies--food, stove, tent poles, fuel bottles, water and and not to mention, an over-sized sleeping bag--without too much strain on my back and hips. On the 3rd or 4th day of our trip, my buddies and I hiked up one of mountains in the area. The hike was a good 1000 ft, steep walk. We thought there would be a path down the other side of the mountain so we took our gear with us but alas, no such trail was there. So unfortunately, we had no choice but to drag our packs back down the steep slope. I was carrying my pack by hand b/c I felt like it was pushing me forward and about 50 ft. from the summit I lost grip on it the pack and it rolled the majority of the 1000 feet down, with at least one 75-100 ft. sheer drop. When we finally got down the pack was completely undamaged. Our tent pole bag had ripped and I lost a Nalgene. Besides that everything else was perfectly fine. It wasn't the durability test I would have prefered but now I know it's going to take quite a bit to bend the frames/rip the fabric. I definitely won't be buying supplies from any other brand now! Great buy!

I think the 5000ci or medium size would work better for her height. That would give her plenty of volume & be more comfortable.

Great pack. Just used one on a four-day, rim-to-rim Grand Canyon trek. Plenty of room for tent (Big Agnes Seedhouse 2), sleeping bag and pad, stove and fuel, food, snacks, water (3 1L bottles), clothes, sandals, and camera. Weighs about six pounds empty. The pack has a great suspension system, with an adjustable lumbar support and cinch straps to pull the load forward, off your shoulders. Carrying about forty pounds (including water), I had no problems with back or shoulder soreness. Bought my own as soon as I got back. No hesitation recommending this pack.

Hey all, I'm brand new pup to all of this. I'm starting

Hey all,

I'm brand new pup to all of this. I'm starting to plan an extended trip to begin in about 6months. I would like to be able to live out of a pack in wilderness and urban settings. I've traveled before but never like this. I'm looking for any and all tips on: gear, destinations, travel habits... you name I want to know. Or if there is a good book/website that I can use as a resource. Thanks.

You're @ the right website for all your gear needs. As far as destinations, etc., I like http://www.trails.com/This is a very comprehensive website that might answer all your questions. I hope this helps. **********You should look into Osprey, Arc'Teryx and Gregory for top quality packs. Also, if you're new to this sort of thing, consider some smaller trips to see if you're really up for a 6 month trip. Check out http://www.summitpost.org/ andhttp://cafe.comebackalive.com/ look into the Black Flag Cafe. Also, go to some local gear stores and talk to the people there. Every store has at least one employee with some real world experience. Ask them questions, lots of questions. Have fun and good luck.

Very comfortable when packed right. Can carry an immense load. I actually carried food for five people on a backpacking trip with this plus clothes, a sleeping bag, a sleeping pad, a tent, a self inflating pad, first aid, and some other things. Plus it was a winter trip so the clothes were heavy. And the green color appeals to me.

I got this pack at 12 or 13 and used it until just a few years ago (about 10 years of use) It is quite adjustable for growth, and will carry anything worth carrying unless they start to specialize in a certain sport. If they can grow with this pack, it's the right choice. Many kids grow so fast you could almost put them in a new pack every year.
