Kelty Redtail Backpacks - 1800 cu in - 2006

The versatile Kelty Redtail 1800 cubic inch backpack is designed as an all-purpose daypack for any activity. The Redtail is ready to go when you are. Pack it up with books and take it to school; load it with folders and your lunch when you take it to work; or throw a camera, snack, and an extra layer into the Redtail to hit the trails. The Redtail sports a large main compartment, a front zippered pocket with an organizer panel, and two expandable mesh water bottle pockets. The Redtail is hydration compatible allowing you to stow your water bladder in the pack for day hikes.

Bottom Line: The Kelty Redtail backpack won't let you down regardless of how you choose to use it.

Very nice design, questionable quality material

By:

Like other posting here, this pack is well designed, good padding, air ventilated against back, and not-so-heavy. However, the material used on the pack is very questionable. It’s not Cordura Nylon, it’s Kodra Polyester. Feels very cheap, and seem to wear quicker than Cordura. I checked Kelty website, and this material is widely used on their military product line as well – does Navy Seal trust this material? I asked a Seal friend, who used different Kelty packs for years. His reply was “Nope, it will bust soon or later, but great thing is they are so cheap Government can keep replacing them” ...Since I don’t have the size of Government budget, I hope I don’t have to replace it as often as his…

good design, poor materials

This backpack is very well designed. It has numerous pockets and a very comfortable, thick padded back panel and straps. However the rest of the pack feels very cheap. The materials used are not the best. They are the lower quality nylon and the crappy polyester kodra. The bottom is very weak and fragile. I would not trust it to hold even fifteen pounds. It is also made overseas with questionable workmanship. Now, someone may say, it's got lifetime warranty. Let me ask you this, what will that do for you when your pack fails you in the middle of the trail, miles away from home??? This could have been a much better pack if Kelty didn't cut corners.

Good daypack with lots of room and convenient pockets

By:

I would suggest this pack to anyone who wants a well-made daypack that will last for years to come. It includes a hydration port which is very convenient. My only complaint is that it is a little heavier than I might like but this is due to its solid, rugged construction.

Great all-around pack

I use it all the time. It's a good enough size for day treks, plus I can load it up with my laptop and books for class. It fits well and has wonderful back support with the internal frame. It's a bit expensive, but very well built and worth the extra money. I won't need a new small- size pack for a long time.
