Pull on the KEEN Women’s Whisper Sandal before you take on the white caps at the Royal Gouge. Keen gave this sandal a heel strap and quickdraw elastic cord to ensure you don’t lose your sandals when you step into rushing water. The polyester webbing with antimicrobial treatment prevents your feet from smelling like a river bed when you’re back at camp, and KEEN’s patented toe protection prevents underwater debris from slowing you down. The EVA footbed keeps your dogs comfortable for the long haul, and the grippy rubber sole helps you stay upright on slippery surfaces.
I ordered these shoes for a sea kayaking trip I took with friends. I was told the oyster bars were bad out there so I needed something to protect my feet. They did great in the water and walking around in, except for in sand. The WORST part is the sand that gets inside the shoe, and doesn't get out. It fills up under the arch of your foot and is rather painful to walk around on. They do not protect completely around your foot either because there are straps as opposed to full fabric protection like with sneakers. I actually did cut the inside of my foot on an oyster shell because of that. I would say if your are going to be a in a lot of sand, these are not the shoes to pick, but maybe in less of a sandy environment, they'd be great! And if you are going to be walking in an environment where you are going to need your foot completely protected, I wouldn't go for these. I did however really like the light green color of them, and the more feminine, smaller straps. And they are SUPER comfortable. I also wear them around town on rainy days and because the traction is so good, I'm less likely to slip.

After a few years searching for comfortable all purpose sandals, the Whisper finally arrived on the scene. The footbed is lightweight and comfortably molded, the upper webbing is comfortable and doesn't cause any hot spots. Drys quickly. The only problem that I experienced was that the sticthing was inconsistent in some of the shoes I tried on, the upper webbing was tighter in some spots than others. I was overjoyed when my shoes arrived and they fit perfectly.
Write your question here...where can I buy a pair of these in a 9 1/2 on Van Island ? Anywhere in Nanimo or Victoria ? The closest I've found is a size 10 but they're too big ! I need them in 2wks ! Help ! Marilyn
The most comfortable sandals I've ever had! I bought the shoes mostly because they looked cool. Now I am pleasantly surprised by how light-weight, comfortable and protective (for the toes) they are. No break-in period needed. I am tempted to get another pair of a different color.
These are super comfortable but falling apart after only one month. So buyer beware.
The positives They are the most comfortable sandal I have ever owned. They have not become stinky even after multiple trips through white water and rivers. I have got a lot of compliments on the color (light green ones with gray). The rubber is A+! it is sticky when wet and when dry.
However, There is a problematic negative. These shoes are NOT built tough. More like built rough. The stitching is terrible. After the first weekend of having them some of the stitching came apart on the side I tied it off and it seems to be fine, however that shoe is just a little loser now. I also have more than one hole in the liner fabric because of the poor attention paid to the stitching on the side pieces and back pieces. I know this soft fabric is the reason the shoe is so comfortable but wherever there is a leather accent piece there is also a hole is forming in the liner fabric (pout).
So overall even though they are uber comfy, I wonder how long they will hold up. We'll see. I will not be purchasing another pair for this price if they fall apart too soon. Doesn't look so good after one month but they are really very comfortable
From reading all the reviews, I was really excited to get these. I actually preferred the style, foot bed, and colors of the Venice sandals, but with my narrow feet, the Whisper were the better fit.
I like how how light and versatile these shoes are. It's a sandal with good support so I can walk for a long time and very quickly. I've had it for a month now and haven't gotten any blisters yet.
The downside is that my feet gets warm in them in hot weather.... ?? Also, I tried wearing it to the playground but sand just kept getting trapped inside the shoe without the convenience of being able to quickly dislodge them with one swift shake of the foot (like with a flip flop). I had to keep taking them off.
I'm between a size 7 and 7.5 and the 7.5 fits great.
OMG! I felt like Cinderella - it was the perfect fit! The Whisper is a more feminine Keen - tapered fit and more refined! And tottaly comfortable! I just bought my 2nd pair!!
That is something where if you just contact Keen directly they would be able to send you a replacement. Here is they're contact information 800-509-5336
So, for the most part, I love these sandals. I have the green/grey ones. Love the way they look for a water shoe, and they are super comfy when my feet are sitting right in them...
I have pretty wide feet, and have to "work" my feet into them, otherwise my heels hang off the back. I ordered my normal shoe size. The heel strap is not adjustable (aside from pulling the elastic cord tighter on the front, which doesn't do much), otherwise I'd try to hold my foot in place that way. Maybe once they break in more they'll fit better.
My only other complaint is that they hold onto sand and need to be emptied frequently, but I'm sure you'll have that with a closed toe.
All of that aside, like other reviewers have said, they dry quickly, offer great traction, and don't smell bad after lots of activity.
I just got back from San Diego, CA and these sandals were great for walking at the zoo, on the beach and at the Midway Museum. I have very flat feet and the sandals were very comfortable for me. The sandals dried very quickly after walking in the ocean and my feet sweat a lot and they were kept very dry and cool.
The Keen San Sebastian is a convertable mesh shoe/sandal. The elastic back heel strap can swing over the top of the shoe to allow it to be worn as an open-back, slide-style sandal. Fairly breathable, too. Or you can wear it with the heel strap in place for more security. Lots of flexibility and comfort!
[The San Sebastian tends to run true to size, so no need to order a half size up from your regular size like you might need to with the Newport or Venice.]
Lee,The Newport only comes with a velcro strap in the Kid's model. Keen does have a massive collection I'm sure you will find something that will give you the comfort you know and can quickly be slipped on. Please take a look at a few other Keen styles that may work for you.#1 choiceKeen Ormond - Similar to the Newport without a back, just slide and go!http://www.backcountry.com/store/KEN0245/KEEN-Ormond-Slide-Sandal-Womens.html?Keen Mystic - A little more rugged with a cliphttp://www.backcountry.com/store/KEN0127/KEEN-Mystic-Sandal-Womens.html? These sandals are pretty much the only pair I need any more. They are comfortable, durable, and look great after every adventure. True to size and stylish, can't beat these!!
Although they are slightly large, the cord cinches them to fit quite comfortably. It also made slipping them on quite easy. I used them heavily during a 12-day backpacking trip in Yosemite so they were used in a variety of ways. In muddy lakes they held on great. Crossing rocky creeks, they had great traction. Actually, they didn't dry as fast as I would have liked, but it was good enough. Using them as a camp shoe was fine, except that pebbles did get underfoot. I especially appreciated that they were light weight because this was very important for our trip.
Order a half size to fulll size larger than you normally would. These are very easy to wash on your machine or with a hose. Great for anything from walking to tubing down the river
I love these shoes! I was reluctant to buy them because I never found them to be aesthetically appealing. However, I needed a good pair of supportive shoes for a trip to Toronto. These Keens are the best shoes I've ever had. They are incredibly comfortable and I wear them everyday. I do shopping, yardwork, etc. in the and just throw them in the washing machine at the end of the day. Best shoes ever! I recommend them to everyone!
I had previously purchased the Keen Whisper sandal in the gray color...and loved them so much, that I HAD to have another color, too! I can walk miles in these sandals, I don't have to worry about getting them dirty (I can just throw them in the washer!), and they are lightweight and durable. What more could you ask?!
I have some Keen leather shoes that I wear constantly during cold weather so it made sense to get some of their sandals. I originally bought these because of the sale price but I really like them better than the Newports. The smaller toe cap means klutzy me is less likely to trip and the narrower style fits my slightly less than B width foot perfectly. Not many other shoes are getting worn this summer - I wear these everywhere with everything.
I have other pair of Keens and absolutely love them. So as I ordered these online I was only expecting the same. From wearing the shoes I received 4 blisters in various places, as I looked at the shoe 2 of them were from bad stitching. My mom ordered a different style and loved them and was completely satisfied. I dont know what went wrong with mine, especially with the love I have for my other keens. I would just recommend trying them on and taking a close look at the stitching. I havent worn my since
