Mesh linings in the Keen Women's Voyageur Mid Hiking Boots let your feet breathe, while the mid-height cuffs keep the support level up when you're shouldering a heavy pack. Four-millimeter lugs on the Voyageur Mid Hiking Boots grip rough terrain, while ESS shanks provide torsional stability. Lace up these Keen mid hikers, grab your summer camping gear, and hit the trail.
Bottom Line: Because mid-height hiking boots don't have to be sweat-huts for your feet.
I bought these boots for dayhking and camping. I use them with Superfeet insoles and Smartwool hiking socks. They've been comfortable from the very beginning and required no break in period at all. I have a weak left ankle from an injury, and they provide enough ankle support to keep me from rolling my ankle un uneven terrain. I have a pair of Lowe boots that are a little heavier that I use for backpacking, but for everything else I grab the Keen's.
I really love these. They are my first hiking boot ever and were more comfortable right out of the box than most tennies I've owned. The ankle took a little getting used to, but I never got sore spots, just had never really worn much for boots before (unless you count the ski boots I live in in the winter).
They are very light and have good air flow - my normally sweaty feet feel a nice breeze. They aren't waterproof because of the venting, but they seem to be designed just right that not much water gets in them and they dry very quickly, even while they are still on your feet. I bought them for a hiking trip in Colorado after making the mistake of wearing trail-runners last year and having very sore ankles. These were almost perfect and gave me a pretty good amount of support for my day hikes (including treking up to 13,800+ feet). The only complaint is that the insole could be better - it is very breathable, but it doesn't have a whole lot under the arch and my fore-foot could've used a bit more cushion. I compensated by wearing a little thicker wool-blend sock that wrapped around my arch and had cushion on the bottom. Even though the temps were in the 70's wearing wool socks, my feet were fine. (My actual star rating would be a 4.5 because of the insole). I'm going to get a new insole and then they should be perfect!
I love the wide toebox, it kept my toes from jamming going down the mountains. I do suggest ordering a half size larger than normally for hiking (I got an 8.5 in these and I wear an 8 in my casual Keens and sandals) - the extra 1/2 size gives you room so your toes don't jam into the top on downhills.
They are very cute too - they look great with jeans or cargo pants - the colors look so much better in person than on the screen. Would buy them again in a heartbeat.
What happened???? I have a pair of these (purchased fall of 2007) that ARE waterproof that I've worn to shreds. When I tried to replace them I was told that they don't make the waterproof version now. I'm very sad, WHY NOT,??!! they were the BEST!
There's also the Targhee II that is, essentially, the Voyageur with the waterproof membrane. They made these without the waterproof membrane for hikers that need their feet to breathe a bit more than the Gortex lining allows for. Personally, I find that when I backpack in April-June, I end up going through so much water that a waterproof membrane doesn't work anyway, which is why I prefer not having that layer at all so as to not weigh down the boot. (And Keen's breathability can't be beaten. After wading through 30r of water, if I walk for more than 10min on a dry path, my feet are almost completely dry.)
There are other companies that make similar boots such as the Vasque Breeze or Scarpa that are made of goretex that will be waterproof. Search "goretex boot" and the options come up.
I did a 12 mile hike on Sunday and Iove my boots more and more. I did not have to break them in: they never hurt. i paid much more for my previous boots and they were fine unless I hiked more than a couple of miles .
I was looking for a warm-weather hiking shoe and thought these would be perfect. I was a little disappointed when I took them out of the box; they felt a little cheap. They fit OK, I didn't think the arch support was that great and they weren't as comfortable as other Keens I've tried (Keen Newport Trail, Keen Ferndale). Plus for the few minutes I had them on inside, my feet were heating up. I would have kept them because I liked the mid cut, but the Ferndales felt much better on my feet and seemed to be more breathable. They're still a nice lightweight shoe, and I'd still recommend them, but I didn't think they were spectacular. (As usual, I ordered a half size up.)
Bought these about 1 day before a Canyonlands backpacking trip. I knew I would be oaky because Keens alwasy feel great right out of the box, no breaking in necessary. They are really cute, kept my feet cool, lightweight and did a nice job of sticking to the rock in many sections that I had to downclimb with my pack on. I don't think I would wear them for a multiple day long trip but I did hike a 16 mile day with a 45 pound pack on with no blisters or other issues.
I have wide duck feet and keens are the only brand that fit comfortably on me. Before keens, I had to buy men's hiking boots. This pair of boots has low ankle support, which I like for day hiking & casual backpacking. And the soles are just stiff enough to keep you from feeling every little pebble you step on, but not so stiff that you can't wear these all day.
First of All - GREAT LOOKS. I bought these for my wife. She Loved the looks of them so much - she put them on top of the box they came in; like a statue on a pedestal in the closet; so she could see them every morning. GREAT SIZE; My wife wears size 6.5 - We bought 6.5. They fit comfortably. GREAT HIKERS; Put in a 10 mile hike right out of the box; great performance. GREAT SERVICE As usual great service from Backcountry. Tough choice between these and the KEEN Targhee ll Mid Hiking recommended we order both - & send 1 back free return shipping which we did.
i have to wear a brace on my right foot and i have a very hard time finding boots or shoes that will fit, without the problem of fall off the other foot. i do alot of camping on horse back and could not find any "cowboy" boots that would work, anyone need a dozen pairs of riding boots unused? that should tell you how pleased i am, and a great big thank you to that super nice young man who spent so much time helping me. kandy
I really liked the look of this shoe. However, after a live chat with a rep there, he told me that they run true to size. Well they don't. I had to send them back. Because I needed them right away, I didn't have time to order a half size larger. I called a shoe store in my area to ask if they had any Keen's in my size, luckly they just got a shipment in that day and they only had one style in two colors. He told me on the phone that they would run a half size larger than I normally wear. I loved them, they were perfect, no pain, no blisters, no breaking in. Best hiking boot I've ever owned. They are Keen Targhee. I must also say that Backcountry was true to their word. The boots arrived fast, and my refund was fast. I will order from them again.
I purchased the Keen Voyageur hiking boots for a trip down into the Grand Canyon. I love them. Very comfortable & great colors. No blisters after 14 hours of hiking!
I have had many pairs of hiking boots made by all the top name brands. This is the best pair of hiking boots I have ever owned. They are super light. Easy to lace. Keep my feet warm and very comfortable at all times. I love them!
I'm very pleased. Comfortable. As a middle aged, wide footed, overweight woman I'm finally getting back into hiking & based on other reviews thought these might be the ones. Traction really good & foot bed wide enough. Only negative is that since I live in Las Vegas, NV, it's really hot during the summer - over 100 degrees consistantly & my feet do feel hot in these but I think that I can't expect air conditioning! Also, having a hard time cinching the top - maybe I'm not lacing correctly.
Most awesome pair of hiking boots I've ever had. Lightweight (not sure of actual pounds). Great arch support, waterproof and breathable. Great purchase
It is a constant challenge for me to find boots, running shoes, etc. that fit properly. I like a snug heel but lots of toe room. These boots are perfect. They were comfortable right out of the box. They also have an excellent arch support. I've also gotten compliments on how cool they look--not that that really matters when your primary concern is comfort and support on a long hike, but it's still neat. If I could change anything, it might be nice to have a Gortex version of this boot. Early morning dew or a slushy day would probably present problems. I have a pair of Montrail Gortex trail shoes and I love how effectively they keep me dry. Great boots; give them a try.
I just ordered these boots and love them. First time I have used a Keen product. I read the reviews where some said Keen boots ran small in size. I found these true to size with normal socks. If you want to wear thick socks or double socks you might want to order up in size. They allow plenty of room in the toe which I love. Also, the heel fit well. No slipping. I am accustomed to wearing boots that fit around my calf versus my ankle and found these rubbed just a little for the first couple of days, but not enough to produce a blister. After wearing them for about two days they have been fine and I have had no other issues. They have proven to be very durable and provide a good grip when climbing on rocks. I worn them in Mexico while hiking and had no problems at all. I am sold on Keen now and will purchase again.
