Hiking with the Keen Women's Voyageur Hiking Shoes on is like opening the windows and letting cool, fresh air into your stuffy apartment. Unlike many supportive hiking shoes that feel hot and stifling on summer days, the Voyageur Shoes' mesh linings provide breathability for your feet. The ESS shanks on these Keens provide torsional stability as you breeze down the trail, and aggressive 4mm lugs grip rough terrain.
Okay, let me first say I LOVE Keen sandals. That's the only Keens I've ever owned until this purchase. The shoe is very good looking & comfortable just like the sandals, but with only one drawback. These shoes have tie laces, not the bungie cord like the sandals. The laces are a little too short in my opinion, not leaving quite enough lace to double tie & you don't get that quick on & off that I love. I also have a narrow heel and my heel slides just a little in this shoe. I've remedied that by wearing a little thicker sock. If these shoes had the bungie cord lace, they would be perfect and earn 5 stars. These run small just like the Keen sandals. I normally wear a 9-9.5 in other shoes and a Keen size 10 fits perfect. Overall, if you don't mind the laces, it's still a great shoe.
Simply put, these shoes are soo comfortable and are great for light hiking. If you're looking for a light hiking shoe for less money, these are definitely the shoes for you.
I have tried many Keen styles and though I normally wear an 8 1/2 wide the Keens 8 1/2 are "sometimes" a bit short in the toe box but a 9 slips at the heel. So depending on the style I find I need an 8 1/2 and sometimes a 9. I have not tried the Voyageur on. Would you say they are true to size or should they be sized up?
My very 1st pair of KEEN's...Perfectly comfortable right out of the box - no 'breaking in' was necessary. So very comfortable! Just right size for my medium width foot & true to size. Won't be my last pair of KEEN's. Also, this vendor, BACKCOUNTRY, was quick & efficient with delivery. Thanks for a pleasant shopping experience!
Absolutely love this shoe, wearing them for mountain biking/hiking since there is always alot of climbing they are very multi-functional for me. Added bonus! They look great, keep them on to shop at whole foods after the ride, LOVE THEM!
This is a great hiking shoe. I had to order a .5 size larger. The heel was a little loose. I was able to put inserts in and they were fine. A solid fit with great cushion.
I love these shoes. I got them, wore them once for light hiking and then took off for Red Rock country and wore them everyday for two weeks and did some long and short, easy up to strenuous hiking. The grip was great whether on loose rock or boulders. I like them so much that I am going to get another pair before they decide to change the design.
i don't own a pair, yet... but i've tried them on in the store, and my opinion is, they have the best arch support of any shoes i've ever tried on! they're really comfortable!
I tried the Keen Targhee II boots first, and they didn't fit my feet well, but these Voyageurs fit like a dream! I took them on their first true trail hike yesterday, and never noticed my feet all day (usually my feet ache a bit after 5-6 miles of hiking).
They aren't 100% waterproof, due to the venting on the sides, but kept my feet dry even though I had to splash through a number of muddy portions of trail, and even manage a few very shallow dips in water as I made my way across a number of small streams. When I intentionally stuck my foot into several inches of water to rinse boggy mud off the top of my boot, however, a little water seeped inside. I'd say they are "waterproof enough" for the nice tradeoff with keeping my feet much cooler than they'd be in most 100% waterproof boots.
These are by far the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. Right out of the box they felt broken in. There is great arch support and is very roomy in the toe area. I love the looks of them...good for just running around town too. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a light hiking shoe.
Took this to the Pacific Northwest and hiked around Seattle, Vancouver and Whistler over the week of 4th of July (2009). Definitely a good summer hiking shoe. Cool enough for 80+ degree heat, but keeps shallow puddle water out. We did a 6 hour hike one day at the top of Whistler/Blackcomb and it held up pretty well. The bottoms of my feet hurt a little at the end from the pebbles/gravel on the trail, so I would probably put insoles or wear thicker socks for hikes longer than 3-4 hours. Warning - I'm also calloused, so that may have something to do with it.
Overall loved the shoe. My boyfriend was so jealous he tried to look for the same shoe in men's. It looks great and can probably even pass for street shoes.
I l-o-v-e this shoe. The Vouageur offers amazing fit and support, even for my widish feet. I have a pair for the trails and another for the gym, and I couldn't be happier.
The break-in time is minimal, but I wouldn't recommend going full speed ahead on your first day wearing these (I did...ouch).
The shoes also breathe well, and are not as heavy as many hiking shoes can be.
