Whether you’re strolling through downtown Breckenridge or hoofing it to the train in a whiteout, the KEEN Men’s Summit County Winter Boot blocks the cold, wet weather with a KEEN.DRY waterproof breathable membrane and toasty warm KEEN.WARM insulation. KEEN also added more insulation in the toe area to keep your sensitive digits comfortable. The Dual Climate rubber outsole solidifies in cold weather to give you a better grip on slick sidewalks and icy driveways, and the molded rubber Shellback heel support gives you a rigid platform for snowshoeing or winter hiking.
Bottom Line: Spare your feet from harsh winter weather.
Love these boots! Got them for Christmas and they turned out to be my favorite. Wore them snowshoeing in Lake Tahoe and the performed flawlessly. Classic Keen fit with a wide toe box, but no heel slippage. Feet stayed warm and dry and felt great at the end of the day. Highly recommended.
I have not really ever worn high boots before, and once you get used to them rubbing on your shins (loosen the laces and problem sovled) they work very well. Keeping my feets warm and dry. There has been a lot of ice out there lately, living in alaska you get that, and the traction is great. They are excellent boots.
These boots tend to run a size smaller because of the insulation, and I had to reorder a full-size larger. Winters in the South are not usually severely cold, but I sometimes spend 8 hours or more outside in various kinds of habitat when I go birding. This boot has proven to be up to the task of keeping my feet warm in dry and wetter conditions. I would not expect them to provide protection wading in open water, but for marshy ground and fording streams, they have proven more than adequate. As a longtime wearer of Keen sandals, I assumed that the Keen boots would also be comfortable and they have proven to be comfortable and warm. Can't ask much more out of a winter boot.
I have been hiking/snowshoeing in these all winter long and I love them. I spend most of my time hiking around the salmon river area on STEEP, rocky slopes and the boots have held up well to the abuse I give them and they are great for snowshoeing as well. I have wide, sensitive feet and these have been a dream.
My ultimate reccomendation is to go somewhere and try them, but If you need an answer, I'd say no. Keen's in general offer a roomeier fit and an open toe box. I'm able to use the warm insoles they come with and my custom insoles stacked on top without a problem as long as I wear thin socks.
I've found these boots to be extremely warm, especially in the toes, and very nicely supportive in the ankle region. So far I've used them for snowshoeing, winter camping and regular wandering around in the snow. My only complaint has been that when ascending my feet may get a little too warm, but that isn't really a con at all. On descents and just standing around that extra bit of insulation in the toes is great.
I was a little suspicious when I received these boots and first examined them. The leather at the base of the boots seemed somewhat thin and I wondered whether it was adhered properly to the rubber. Then I tried them on and stepped into a bathtub with about four or five inches of water in it, sloshed about and tried to mimick walking for several minutes. Not a drop entered the interrior of the boot. The fact that the water in the tub was extremely cold was not felt at all by my feet.
On top of this, the boots are extremely comfortable, if a bit on the bulky side. I have somewhat wide feet, and these were a much more comfortable fit than a pair of winter Asolos I returned the previous week. They come on and off very easily, and the laces 'stick' and don't come undone. This was my first Keen boot purchase and I can say that as long as these hold up the remainder of the winter (I live in Buffalo, NY and have been wearing them consistently for over a month), I'll keep this brand in mind when shopping for footware again. For what I've received, I think the price is also extremely reasonable.
By the way, I usually wear about a 10 1/2 to 11 in a regular shoe size, bought 11 1/2 in these and they fit perfectly.
These boots are phenomenal in all ways and perfect for deep powder activity. Your feet breathe in them and there is perfect watertight construction. Couldn't be better..
I tried them a couple of times. They were really great with the exception of warmth. My feet tend to run very cold and that was also the case with these boots. Aside from that they were great!I use them in Northern Vermont, good for treking across a field, but when I try to climb Mt. Mansfield, they are not up to the subzero cold and double digit negative wind chill.
I work as a land surveyor so I was looking for winter boots that will keep me warm for a whole day. I tried those boots in every situation (snowshoeing, powder, slush...) and they passed the test especialy keeping my toes warm. Keen dry works even better then I thought!
These is my first pair of Keen footwear. While I normally wear a 10 1/2 in a boot, the 11 size fit me well and still leaves some room for my heaviest pair of wool socks (or socks and liner). I especially love the genererous and rubber capped toe box. These boots are extremely comfortable with very little break-in required. I have worn them for everyday, on winter hikes, and on several snowshoe excursions. They worked well in all cases, keeping my feet warm while still providing adequate support. I liked them so much I searched high and low to find my wife a pair as well (evidently the women's Summit County have been discontinued). She also upsized from her normal womens 7 to 7/12 and loves the boots. Since buying these I have ordered the Newport Hiking Shoes, Newport Sandals, and Newport H2 sandals. Great footwear!
These are good for winter camping if your feet don't run cold. Mine do so I couldn't use them. You can use non-neumatic crampons with them. They run true to size but you may upsize .5 for thicker socks.Hope that helps.
The boots are very comfortable to wear for an 8 hour day.The first thing I noticed was when standing still, the top of my feet got cold. When moving they seem to keep my feet kind of warm.(This is with regular socks).I work in new construction ,open building,on concrete floors in New York City.It hasnt been below the 20's yet, since I bought the boots.I have a feeling they will not preform well in those conditions.I was looking for a light weight warm winter boot for work, the search goes on.The boots are also a little snug for people with wide feet(13EE)
I have used these winter camping above timberline. They performed extremely well. They are comfortable and very warm. Have been completely waterproof so far.
Warm and comfortable! I enjoyed them as soon as I put them on. Today we had snow and less slip than usual during the shoveling ordeal. I keep the laces loose so they slip on and tighten them up when required. Great boot!
So far so good with these boots. They fit just like my other Keens. They do gain room inside as you wear them, so don't but they too loose. I for one don't think they are as warm as some folks make them out to be. They are great for hiking, running around town, to the dog park, etc. I wouldn't however wear them for some stationary cold weather activity. But, if they were warmer, then they'd be bulky. So it's a trade off.
These boots are really light and really warm. What else can I say? I wore them for roughly an hour in deep slush shoveling around the house the other day during a rain storm. No water got in, and my feet stayed toasty warm. Takes a day or two to break them in, but after that they're really comfortable.
i run a areal tram during the winter. these boots keep my feet warm 90% percent of the time, and that is just standing there on a cold aluminum floor. I use smart wool ski socks to round it off
My husband is a UPS driver in Illinois and he absolutely loves these boots. The instant he put them on he raved about how light weight and comfortable they are; he has mentioned how warm his feet have been when wearing them. He has had many 10-12 hours days and has had only good things to say about these boots. We had an unusual amount of rain last week and his feet stayed totally dry. I would say these ran true to size for him as well
Great boot, it is very lightweight and they are pretty comfortable. I haven't had them out 35 below to see if they stay true to the statement. However, it is slick and icy out and they slipped. Not as much as others, but it was very icy out. Other than that they are great boots.
I picked these boots up this weekend and have worn them around a bit. They are a little stiff but very warm. They fit a half size small I wear a 10 bit 10.5's fit perfect. I am hoping to do some snowshoeing this winter; I will report back later this winter.
I have worn these boots at - 29 and had warm feet/ but not for standing around you need to be moving used for snowshoeing and worked great very comfortable fit and good suport. The one problem I had is the sole started to come unglued after 1 month of use. So I am waiting for another pair, but I did want another pair as these are a great boot for active winter fun. I would give them 5 star but not sure how durable the second pair will be
Bought these boots for the winter season, and decided to test them a little early. Put about 50 miles on them so far and they get better each time I put 'em on! They are incredibly warm and when they say waterproof, they mean it!
Great product and would recomend to anyone looking for a great cold weather boot!
I got a pair of 10.5's and they felt a little snug on my left toes. I saw online that people thought they ran a little small and recommended that one should get a half-size larger than they "normally" wear. I ordered an 11 and spent about hour rapidly switch-hitting around my apartment. I felt that the extra toe room on the 11's was slightly greater than I hoped but thought it was something I could get used to, even though, miraculously, at that point the 10.5's didn't seem as snug. However, the reason I chose to keep the 10.5's was that with the extra toe room on the 11's there also came extra width and height around the ankles and lower shin. Consequently, I found myself tightening them up which made them feel more clunky and less sporty and streamlined. Add to that my understanding that these boots have proved to be satisfyingly warm for others and I foresaw myself desiring the option to wear thinner socks when I will be in and out of doors with equal duration for an afternoon free of toting additional footwear.
These boots are great. Very comfortable and very well made. They do run a 1/2 size big as Keen states on their website. I have a wide foot and there is lots of width. Rated for very cold temps and my feet didn't get wet while working indoors. I am very happy with these.
I'm not sure why they say they run big. I found that these also ran small from what I normally wear. I even measured my foot according to the sizing chart on this web page. I don't understand why they would under-size a winter boot since you are going to be wearing thicker socks.
I ordered these for my husband for x-mas & just got them exchanged for his correct size--my mistake! He's told me that they are very warm on his feet & not overly heavy. The only complaint i've heard is that they go up his shins a little & hurt a little when he leans forward. It could be that he's not used to having boots that go that far up his leg. Overall though, a great buy & definately worth the price!
