Mixing normal sandals and boats tends to result in broken, bleeding toes and furious boat owners. The Keen Newport Sandals were developed in the sailing mecca of Rhode Island to solve these problems while retaining the comfort of sandals. A toe guard protects your nubs from deck rigging or rocks on shore. The Newport's soles are made from a grippy, non-marking rubber that prevents you from slipping and falling overboard, or being thrown by black-mark-addled boat owners. The Newport's waterproof leather upper and anatomical last make it comfortable enough for extended wear on long blue water voyages, or just walking around town.
Bottom Line: Get the comfort of sandals without the mangled toes when you wear the Keen Newport Sandals.
They are Great! These sandals are as comfortable as tennis shoes and have a closed in toe box to keep you from getting stubbed toes while out and about. They are very durable. I currently have three pair. I have had my original pair for a little over four years now and they are still in great shape. I bought the other two just to add some color variety to my footwear. They are great for going from dry to wet and back to dry terrain or if you just want a good pair of sandals to wear in Spring, Summer, or Fall. The sizing the Newport seems to run smaller than they do on the Newport H2. ON the Newport I had to get a 1/2 size larger than I did on the Newport H2. Enjoy....
Until I bought my husband a pair of Keen's, he went thru hiking sandals at a rate of a pair a summer. His Keen's have now lasted 3 summers... We backpack in them, thru the creeks and on the rocks and whatever terrain the mountains have to offer. Well worth the money. And the most comfortable sandal, I've ever worn. We are 52 and 63 years old and we put alot of miles on our sandals. Thanks Keen...
i have searched everywhere for a size 12 bison newport sandal. which you dont have either. is there any chance you can get them , if you could it would make my day. or can you suggest where eles i can try?
Best Shoes I Ever Had! These shoes have been great. Wet or dry. They made it through Bonnaroo. State Park trails bouldering. Kayaking. Plus they are great on a Waverunner. I think I am going to get another pair. & now I just saw them on Kevin Nealon in 2009 Weeds episode "Ducks and Tigers". Could they be any cooler?
I love these sandals, and put them on the minute I come home from work. But I discovered that the fit is less forgiving than with Keen's shoes. I have several Keen shoes that I wear regularly, and am happy with the fit. The Newport sandal, however, does not have a heel adjustment, so you want a closer fit to keep your foot stable fore-and-aft. In my case, a size smaller than I wear in Keen's shoes (13) is appropriate.
Write your question here...The Newport is advertised as a boating sandal with sipes in the trend that do extend out farther than the Laguna. The sides are very tight and after looking at a 3 yr old pair the sipes were still very tight and closed. The Laguna has a narrower tread with sipes in it however they are much more open and appear to look like they would be better on a wet boat deck. The Newports have to be completely bent to see any sipes and that is not what will happen walking on the deck of a sailboat. Which is the better sandal for boating?
I can not emphasize enough, how much I love these sandals. I am usually very hard on footwear, these things are comfortable and wear very well. I highly recommend this model as well as the brand - worth every penny!
I am here ordering a new pair of these Keen Newport sandals. I bought my first pair in May 2006 after they were recommended by a brother in law. I have worn them for four summers and they have been great. Last spring I toured Italy and they were the only footwear I took with me. I am only buying a new pair because I am hard on the outter edges of the heels and they are wearing a little thin, but I will still be wearing them too next summer because they are still in great shape and well worth the price.
Great question! I believe that you are correct that the Laguna is the newer-generation Newport, but except for slight styling differences they seem very similar. However, I believe that the Laguna is designed a little more for hiking, while the Newport offers an H2 version that has a polyester (rather than leather) upper that will dry quicker if you are going to be in and out of the water. For dry land use (or just occasional dunkings) I'd probably go with the Laguna, whereas if I were going to be spending a lot of time in the water I'd go with the Newport H2 or Venice H2.
After having a double-knee replacement, I wear one pair of these all winter inside as my slippers and another pair all summer outside (along with my Newport H2's) as my everyday sandals. I have been so pleased with the Newport that I have just ordered the new Newport Trail and I wear the Growler (outstanding!) in winter.
I've read that you should order a half size larger than normal - then I saw a review where the individual said they ran small. I'm not near anywhere convenient to try on - would prefer ordering online. Anyway - I wear a size 9 - should I order a 9 or 9.5 - obviously do not wear socks with sandals - Thanks
These sandals are sized way off. They only run in whole sizes and the size 12 I bought was really a size 13, Buy a size smaller. This is difficult for those who wear ".5" sizes as you can't get a full size smaller.
I've had my pair for a couple of years now and absolutely no complaints. These are easy to wash (just throw them in the washing machine), last forever, and you can wear them just about anywhere. If you looking for just a pure wading sandal get the Simms Keen wading sandal with a felt bottom, they are awesome.
I've tried both the Newport and the H2's and concluded the Newport is far superior. The micro-suede insole is more comfy. The leather is far more durable than the H2's nylon which falls apart. After three seasons the traction is pretty well gone though.
And he loves them. He needed a pair of sandals for a scuba training trip and these are perfect. The open design is great around water and they protect his toes as well. The few times he's tried them out at home he's commented on the comfort. I have no doubt he'll want another pair for non-work use.
Hey, I cant find ANY pair in my size to try in store!!! I wear a NB Tennis in (15 4E)and was wondering if anyone else near the 4E width had any luck? Does a 15 work or maybe go to a 16? I am trying to avoid the order/try/return and then repeat. Thanks.
I got a pair of these to wear wet wading and fishing from a drift boat in the summer and spring. These are very comfortable sandals that provide a lot of protection. I've found these to be a bit slippery on river beds. If you plan on being mostly dry while wearing these then they would be great. If you think you'll spend a lot of time walking in rivers wearing these look elsewhere. I would like to see Keen get some Vibram soles on these.
I just spent 3 weeks on the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. These were my primary shoes. Not a wise choice. They are nice for water as far as sandals go and protect the toes well. However, the traction when wet on rocks or other slippery surfaces was not very good. In fact, 2 of the other folks had Keen sandals as wellone of them being the Keen Hood River model for boating. They both had the same traction issue. Also, when used for dry and or wet hikes, I was constantly getting rocks or dirt in between the slots on the sides and thus making me have to take off the sandals to empty them. These sandals also stretched a lot when wet. I normally wear a 9 to 9.5 size. I got a 9, but should have bought an 8.5. I think this shoe will be nice for walking around town but not as a river sandal. One of the folks had a water shoe that did not have the side holes to allow water out easily or allow debris in to the shoe. This worked the best from what I could tell. It was easy to wear, dried just as fast as the Keen sandals, did not let the debris in the shoe, and was great on hikes. The Salomon Tech Amphibian sandal is an example of this design. Thats what I want to try next.
Keen Newport sandals are not only the most comfortable sandals I have ever worn, they are the most comfortable shoes/boots of any kind I have every had the pleasure to wear. I almost feel barefooted while wearing them, they become part of my feet. Quality seems to be very good, although I have only had them for 7 months so far. I have worn them nearly everyday.
The important stuff...fits true to size, high quality workmanship, good traction in the wet stuff, holds up well to salt and freshwater use, comfortable for light hiking and appears to wear well after 80 hours of use. Sometimes there is a little black residue on the toes, but that's because I can unabashedly kick balls, rocks, stop car doors in the wind, etc. with that great toe protection. My only question mark is the durability of the soft anatomic footbed, I am getting some wear and tear as my feet grind some of the inevitable sand and debris that gets trapped between the ball of my foot and the footbed. For more docile activities around the house I wear good ol' flip-flops but I love the fact that in the great outdoors smashed toes are now a thing of the past. At this point, I give it a hearty two thumbs up!
The Newport has a waterproof leather upper, the upper on the H2 is woven nylon. As well the insole on the Newport is micro-suede. Much less odorous and slippery as the rubbery insole of the H2's
Our family of four did a great deal of walking and hiking through urban and rural cities in Asia wearing these sandals. We also did moderate beach combing and rock climbing. These Keens have a great price and are comfortable and sturdy. They are highly recommended.
I saw these in a catalog and fell in love. My wife, bless her, searched and found them on backcountry.com at a very good price and bought them for me. I've used them for walking, for mowing the lawn, in water, and just for hanging around. I love them.
These are the most comfortable sandals I've ever worn. I have a wide foot and my concerns about not having an option of a wide size disappeared as soon as I put them on. I found that the Newport H2 is a little narrower since purchasing a pair of them as well for fishing.
I ordered a pair of Keen Newport Sandals in Leather and was so pleased I bought a pair of fabric ones too. I can't say enough positive things about the overall comfort and the practicality and safety of the Keen toe enclosure. The fabric ones are particularly good in water as compared to the leather ones. The fabric is also significantly lighter. The leather is a bit more comfortable in the footbed and dries quickly too. I live on salt water. I just hose them off after getting them wet. I'm giving my open-toe sport/water sandals to Good Will.
I purchased a pair of the Keen Newport sandals for an upcoming trip to Costa Rica and can hardly take them off my feet. Very comfortable right out of the box. I received the H2's by mistake 48 hours before departure, they overnighted the correct ones at no charge so I could have them for my trip. Now that is customer service! I will look at this site first for future purchases.
I purchased the Keen Newports based on a friend's rave reviews of his. I can't recall if his are Newport leather or Newport H2, but I'm guessing that their fit and construction are nearly identical. What's immediately apparent are that these are extremely comfortable, and well made. They have excellent all-around support, but are very easy to put on and take off. My feet tend to sweat very easily and these breathe like standard sandals, but with considerably more all-around support like that of a canvass day hiker. Also, you can actually wear off-white socks with these in non-recreational situations and not look like a dork! They look like hikers instead of sandals with socks showing through. I'm guessing that these will hold up under all conditions for a long, long time, and I'll want to wear them all the time in the summer.
I have had the shoes about a month and they have been very good thus far. They were very comfortable from day one. There are no signs of wear, good craftsmanship overall.
I bought these for my husband, he is the pickiest clothier I know, and he absolutely loves them! He cannot take them off his feet. He raved so much, I went out and bought a pair for myself! I love them too, I could not recommend them highly enough!
I bought my first pair in Hong Kong (great price) and love the feel. I'll probably be able to wear them in winter with thin socks (North Carolina). The half sizes make them fit just right.
The Keen Newport Sandal's are the best all-purpose sandals that I have ever owned. I have always been a big fan of Teva sandals, but there are just some places you cannot get away with wearing them, especially in places where you need to have your toes covered. The Keen Newport's are great because they are really a hybrid between a shoe and a sandal. I love that they are waterproof and that they are easily washed in a washing machine.
I purchased a pair of the Newports a little over two years ago. I love wearing them whenever I get the chance. I'm a river guide, so I really put them through the tests, the only thing that I did not like about the Newport is the elastic cord (which snapped when I took a nasty swim) which never seemed to get the sandals tight enough. But that's personal pref.
My cousin had been pestering me for 3 years to buy my first pair of Keens. I finally broke down and paid the price. The fit is amazing and the comfort was instant. I loved them so much that I have even purchased a pair of Keen shoes. The price is worth it.... they last forever. Thanks Keen for producing an awesome comfortable shoe.
What a great product. I wore Extra Tuff boots until I bought my first pair of Keen's. I fished 13 days aboard the Shogun at the Hurricane Bank and Alios Rock. They are so comfortable I never went to wear the Extra Tuff boots again. Best investment I ever made.
I wear these things everywhere! they're rad, super comfy and so far they are holding up really well, you still get a little feet stink but its nothing compared to other sandals I've had. get a pair!
Pricey, but you get what you pay for. Fantastic sandals, incredibly comfortable and sturdy, but not light weight. Actually played a full court game of basketball in these and almost felt like sneakers on my feet.
I love these shoes. I wear them 3 out of four seasons, and they are extremely comfortable. The only downside is that the reinforced toe tends to separate from the mesh if you're real hard on them.
These are the best pair of sandals I have ever purchased. Comfort is second to none. They did stretch a bit after 2 weeks of daily wearing. Great on the trail and great on the city sidewalk.
I bought a pair of these keens about two months ago hoping that they would be as great as my told me they were. When i first put them on i was a little skeptical, but i pulled the draw string tight i knew these were perfect for me. I have already put them through the harshest terrains and they have not even shown a bit of weakness. THANK YOU KEEN!
I wear my Keen Newports everywhere. I wouldn't accept another sandal or water shoe. The comfort is there, and it is good for long hikes, river trips, rocky terrain, camping, and with a closed toe it is safe to venture places you might not otherwise. I have had a couple pair before and they wear real well and last a lond time so it is a good value purchase. Excellent.
Awesome sandals. These are my first Keen's and I'm very impressed. I'm going on a 55k hike in Northern Japan in August and will let you know how they hold up. Right now they're great for when I go rock climbing. Switching in and out of my climbing shoes, they allow my feet to breath and give me great traction when hiking to the sites.
We just got back from a trip through the Hawaiian Islands. Each of us had the Keen's Newport Sandals and they worked great! Perfect for walking on lava rocks and jumping the waves at Wakiki! (Not good to swim in.) I would advise bringing soap to wash and dry before packing to return home. One of the best purchases for our trip.
These are so comfortable. We bought these to hike up Dunn Falls in Jamaica. We would not have made it without them. The tread on them is great. Little rocks got in them, and we would have to stop to get them out. We wear them all the time now. Very pleased with these.
