The Keen Men's Newport Hemp Sandal is proof of Keen following through on its commitment to use sustainable materials. Woven hemp uppers provide durable support and protection, and the Newport's time-proven footbeds offer the comfort that has made Keen famous. These sandal's patented toe-protection keeps your little piggies from becoming roast beef, and an AEGIS microbe shield prevents bacteria and tiny mushrooms from growing.
Bottom Line: Comfortable walking for sustainable living.
I've been testing KEEN's since before they were on the market, I still have my pre-production pair (still in good shape and the sole has plenty of wear left). These sandals are amazing. I was dumbfounded when I received a new pair with a note that read "Beat the hell out of these". How??? Bombproof sandals, if you are worried about the foot odor thing, well, wash your feet and remember that ever pair of sandals you have ever had smelled after a long day of climbing or 6 months of wear... Put them in the wash and they'll be fine.
Write your question here... Are any of the Keen sandals appropriate to wear in a fitness room with free weights and aerobic equipment? Do they have the foot protection and support necessary?
They have good support for your foot. However the coverage is still that of a sandal. I would not recommend wearing these in a gym if you accidentally dropped a weight on your foot you would be wishing you had a full on shoe on, not a sandal.
I've worn the Newport Hemp for about 3 weeks now. I've worn them for 8 hour work days and a bunch of times on the boat. I bought the Newport original 3 years ago and loved it so I thought this would be an easy transition. They have all the comfort and practicality I would expect from KEEN. Overall I would say 7/10. The only down to this shoe compared to the original is the material on the insole. It tends to trap foot odor and keep it. The so called "AEGIS microbe shield" is short lived. I do love the Newport and will buy another pair when this pair wears out.
I bought these Hemp Keens for casual use this summer and they are perfect. I love not having to wear socks, but not being slowed down with sloppy flip flops. Keen newport allow you to have open footwear with great traction and support. I love the Hemp color because it is one of the only shoes without the black sole. Honestly, I am not an outdoorsy person, so I only use these for casual comfort. I may buy another pair just in case something happens to the ones I have. Also, I will purchase more of these in the future.
Having worked in the Outdoor gear industry for years, I have worn just about every technical sandal out there. Keens were new to me and I decided to give them a shot. I read up on Hemp fiber and its durability/strength before I bought these. Everything I read came to the same conclusion. Exceptional strength, comfort and durability! These shoes fit perfectly, they are comfortable, have excellent grip and are very well made. Stress points a re double and triple tack stitched. I have no doubt they will last a long time. I might buy a coupld emore pair before they are gone!
yes you can get the newport sandal in a synthetic and i believe also leather, also in a few different colors. but like the previous answer, you cant go wrong with the hemp
these sandals work great by the river, in the canoe or on the beach. great traction and the hemp really is quick drying. ive used them to hike around and they are just as comfortable as shoes. a must have for watersports freaks. got these off backcountry with awesome service and support. get em!
