Karhu Jak Telemark Ski - 2006

While other companies might sit on an award-winning ski until it becomes obsolete, Karhu is never satisfied. This season they added a titanal layer and a progressive sidecut to the critically-acclaimed Jak Telemark Ski. Don't panic if you dearly loved your old Jaks. After a few turns on these Jaks, you'll fall in love all over again. Titanal PowerClaws beneath the bindings improve edge grip under your foot and reduce the risk of pulling a binding in the backcountry. The progressive sidecut (124/90/113mm) makes the Jak Telemark agile in the trees and floaty on powder. 4D fiberglass construction lays fiberglass in four directions around the Jak's solid wood core to make it torsionally rigid, so as fat as it is, you'll find it to be crisp and responsive as you descend into your favorite powder stash.

Bottom Line: Karhu's Jak Telemark Ski is a versatile do-anything stick for cruising lifts or rocking the backcountry.

Great all around fun ski

By:
April 2, 2007

Had lots of fun last week on these in Crested Butte. Had spring corn:blast thru, spring powder:float thru and park skiing: almost outed the super pipe and of course the steeps. Would recommend as fun for all snow types. Re-read the Karhu mounting instructions a few times though, the mislabeling is confusing and I ended up with a few extra holes.

Jaks Are Powder Puppies

By:
March 2, 2007

I was advised by a Backcountry representative that the Jak was a great all terrain ski that would work well for my intended use of 50% resort trails on hard pack Eastern snow/ice and 50% backcountry with some possible Western powder. When the skis arrived, I was a bit surprised by the width-they looked more like water skis than snow skis. I was very fortunate to take my first test run on a variety of snow conditions from boiler plate ice, breakable crust to fluffy powder. If you ski the backcountry in fluffy powder or groomed trails on soft snow, you will love these skis. If you ski hard packed icy groomed trails, don't buy these skis.

Karhu JAK ski

By:
February 22, 2007

I had Tua Sumos 178 length before buying the JAKs. The Sumos were great backcountry skis, but at the resort did not perform that well on harder snow and were cumbersome in the bumps. I bought the JAKs on reviews and descriptions. They were pretty much right on. The do surprising well on the hard stuff given how fat they are. And as you would expect, they rock in the powder and crud. This really is an all mountain ski. I got the 165 length (I am 5'8") and mounted the Voile CRB bindings. This ski is a lot of fun and is exactly as described in the product description.
