Karhu Jak Telemark Ski - 2005

While other companies sit on an award-winning ski until it becomes obsolete, Karhu redesigns; this season they added a titanal layer and a progressive sidecut to the much-adored Jak Telemark Ski. Don't panic if you dearly loved your old Jaks; after a few turns on these Jaks you'll fall in love all over again. Titanal PowerClaws beneath the bindings improve edge grip under your foot and reduce the risk of pulling a binding in the backcountry. The progressive sidecut (124/90/113mm) makes the ski agile in the trees and stable at high speeds. The Jak's new titanal top sheet keeps the swing weight low, so it's easy to initiate turns and is stable once you're established on edge. 4D fiberglass construction lays fiberglass in four directions around the Jak's core to make it torsionally rigid, so as fat as it is, you'll find it to be crisp and responsive as you descend into your favorite powder stash.

Bottom Line: A versatile stick for cruising lifts or rocking the backcountry.

Jak tele ski

By:
March 20, 2006

I have been skiing the 1st generation World Piste. Wanted something fatter and with more oomph for the crud we ski in the Cascades. I am fairly short and light. I bought the 172cm ski. I decided against the Jak BC because on a test drive it didn't hold an edge as well on the groomed. The Jak turned out to be a fabulous ski. I have ten days in on them. They are a true all-mountain ski. They handle crud well, have a decent edge on hard-pack, and they float and turn well in powder. Huge sweet spot. Feels like they do the skiing and all I have to do is keep up. Have not yet tried touring with them. Can't wait.

Karhu Jak 179cm

By:

This ski is a lot of fun in the deep backcountry pow. Considering its width, it is also on the light side which is great for touring. However, the top sheet material is very easily damaged. I have only skied them 15 days and there are multiple gouges through the top sheet, with one starting to delaminate at the tip already. Hopefully they hold up for more than one season.

Fat and Fun

These skis are a blast for powder skiing. NO more going over the handlebars on tele turns in deep powder. They have massive flotation. They are ok on hardpack as well and they can crush the corn. If you tele in powder these are winners.

Awesome ski!!!

I have eight days on these now and absolutely love them! I got the 170 (120-90-110) and mounted them w/HammerHeads on pin mark. I'm 5'8" 145lb and these have been great in all conditions: groomed, powder, trees, bumps, crud and corn. They're a little sketchy on hardpack/ice but still manageable. I was skiing 14" of fluffy Colo. powder yesterday -- WOW!!!

Jaks Rule!

By:
March 25, 2005

I just got a pair of 180 Jaks and they are great. I have skied 18" of light pow, 2 feet of Sierra cement, wind buff, bumps, and groomers, and the Jaks have done great in all of these conditions. I have not used them in corn yet, but I am confident that they will rip. Because of their size, the Jaks will not be good on ice (but how many skis this size are?). Be aware, I am not sure how they measure the Jaks, but the 180 Jak is like a 175 compared to other skis. The only drawback I can see is that they are heavy which makes them more work in the backcountry, but I can't wait to try them in the backcountry.
