K2 Dawn Patrol Telemark Ski - Women's - 2008

Whether you're waking up at four a.m. for first tracks in the backcountry or six a.m. for the first chair, throw the K2 Women's Dawn Patrol Telemark Ski in the back of the car and you'll be ready to carve, float, and charge through anything the mountain has to offer. The Dawn Patrol Telemark Ski gives advanced free-heel females a wide waist and shovel for the powder and a deep sidecut for quick handling and carving performance. A Bioflex core puts stiff-flexing fir underfoot for stability at speed, and adds a softer-flexing spruce wood under the tip and tail for forgivingness and turn initiation. The core construction, along with versatile dimensions, makes the Dawn Patrol a ripping powder ski that has enough teeth for the hard pack.

Bottom Line: When the weather report says “snow” and the avalanche report says “low,” reach for the Dawn Patrol Telemark Skis.

Hi,

I have the Dawn Patrols from 2006, size 153. I love skiing powder, is there a big difference between Dawn Patrols 2009 & the 2006 model?

Besides a slight profile change, these skis have gone primarily unchanged in terms of construction. These will ride much similar to your 06s, but with much more life in them.

You can use any kind of ski. The difference is that in a tele turn, your weight is distributed between both skis, whereas in an alpine turn it's all on the outside ski. That means that an aggressive alpine ski is a lot stiffer than an aggressive tele ski.

Great Ski-

I've used this ski for about three years both in the resort and backcountry. For the most part I was able to ski everything (moguls, ice, powder, crud etc) without to many problems. This year I switched to the K2 Mt. baker SL only because I wanted something light and stiffer for ski mountaineering. If I was only doing resort skiing or skiing powder in the backcountry I would probably stick with the dawn patrol- and for $250 you are going to hard pressed to find a better ski.

I m 5'10'' and wt is 150lb and an intermediate skiier. I ski area and back country. Do u think this would be a good ski for me. Currently I ski on a 171 ski and think it is too long. Do u think this would be a good ski for me and what length do you recomend. Do u think they would be too light for ski area skiing. Thank you

It depends on what kind of backcountry you do. I used this ski in the backcountry for three years but currently switched to the mt. baker SL because it is lighter and stiffer. The Mt. baker seems to hold an edge better on really icy stuff. I wanted to do a lot of ski mountaineering so I thought the mt. baker was better than the dawn patrol. But if you are just going to be skiing a lot of powder/resort I think the dawn patrol is good.

K2 tele skis run long, go a bit shorter than you would for alpine.

I just got a brand new pair of Dawn Patrol 160s but now I'm nervous I should have gotten the 153s the 160s seem long. I want to improve my ability to rip the bumps and trees with tight turns. I ski on and off area mostly advanced-expert terrain I'm 5'4" 120lbs. What do you think?

If I'd been asked before you bought, I'd have said 153s. But I think with a little practice, you'll be able to shred just as well on 160s. And they'll be faster in really deep powder.

Joe, pretty much any binding you buy will come with some mounting instructions as well as hardware to do so. If not then there are plenty of Telemark mounting guides on the internet. Just do a google search.--------------------K2 skis actually come with all the screws you need, Lock Tight pre-applied. And these have inserts, so everything's lined up already and all you need is a few basic tools, depending on the binding. For Black Diamond bindings, for example, it takes about 20 minutes with a Phillips screwdriver and a small Allen wrench. Piece of cake.

Probably 160-165, but there are a lot of other factors to consider besides height (weight, skiing style). If you can, try to demo a few sizes to see what feels best for you.

Yes, all K2 Tele Skis utilize an internal fiberglass mount screw retention matt and you will be able to mount an AT binding. You may also want to check out K2s Miss Baker, they are designed specifically for AT bindings!
