K2 Apache Recon Alpine Ski w/ Marker Piston M1 12 Binding - 2007

The K2 Apache Recon Alpine Ski with Marker M112 Binding is a high-performance mid fat with a mission—to explore every inch of the mountain. The Apache Recon Alpine Skis takes advanced skiers into any off-piste terrain, from open bowls to tight trees to steep chutes. Twin metal laminate construction lends stability and precision edge control, and the Recon Alpine Ski's 78mm waist provides a solid platform for powerful turns through any condition. K2 used Mod Monic construction, which puts a secondary elastomeric core under the top sheet for a damp ride, without interfering with the skis flex pattern. A fat shovel gives the Recon plenty of float in the soft stuff, but the footprint is still small enough to rail turns on the groomers. Integrated Marker M1 12 Bindings transfer every ounce of your energy into the ski. *Available for US shipment only.

Bottom Line: Find what you've been searching for with the K2 Apache Recon Alpine Ski with Marker M112 Binding.

My Dad is 68 and I want to get him a good advanced ski that he can enjoy all mountain skiing with. I feel the ones he has now hold him back. In his younger years he use to ski aggressively with beautiful form. Will this ski help him achieve that again? Also he is 5'6 what would you suggest size I get him?

The Apache Recon was my first new pair of Alpine skis in about ten years (I mainly backcountry ski) and I couldn't believe how fast & furious they are. I felt like I should have a license or something to be eligible to use them. They slice through bumps, blast through the crud and annihilate any irregularities which get in the way. Laying down big phat arcs on the groomers is a blast as well. An excellent all around high performance ski.

I am 5'9" and 150 lbs, expert all-mountain skier. Length recommendation? ie. would the available 160cm pair left be a bit short?

Loves the ice

I love this ski for the bulletproof I get out here in AZ. The snap and rebound in these skis is phenomenal. I'm sure some of this has to do with the marker piston binding, but nevertheless; I'm impressed. I've had it for 4 seasons now and they're still cranking. They also handle the pow when needed without complaint, however I use them primarily for hardpack....a luxury when you've got several skis for different conditions. However, if I had only one ski and most of my time was spent inbounds, this would be at the top of my list.

Any particular boots you think pairs well with this ski? I have

Any particular boots you think pairs well with this ski? I have been looking at the Nordica Supercharger line & Technica Agents. Are these good options? My current boots are several years old and not the highest quality (I bought them in high school and did not want to pay big bucks due to the fact I could out grow them in a year, I am 25 now and figure I'm done growing, so its time to upgrade).

Both boots you mentioned are great options. Try them both on and see what fits your foot better. I think you will see a big difference from you high school boots mainly in stability at higher speeds, as well as in comfort. Nordica and Technica are two of the best boot companies around.

I tell you what, this all Mt. ski will rip through the crud, float through the POW and tame the bumps. This is a true all Mt. ski

I am a 6 foot, 200 lbs, east coast skier. I would consider myself in an 'advanced skier' I ski blues and blacks and venture into the trees everyonce an a while. Do you think the 181s would be the correct size for me?

Yes. I would not go any shorter. The 181cm length of the K2 Apache Recon will be perfect for you and your skiing style. This is one of the most popular skis for people like you (advanced skier, blues and blacks, sometimes trees, east coast). You will be VERY happy. When you take that trip out west you might consider demoing a pair of wider skis, but until then the K2 Apache Recon will be your stick of choice.

SUPERB TRULY ALL MOUNTAIN SKI

By:
February 8, 2008

After several years on a bump/mogul oriented all mountain ski (K2 Axis), I've switched to this delightfully versatile ski. Whether I am gracefully gliding through a bump field, hitting powder in the trees, or ripping racer-esque GS turns on groomers, this ski does not hold me back. The only complaint I have is that the rear 'tips' occasionally catch on each other, though not as bad as on true 'twin-tip' skis. I'm 6'2 225 and on the 174s I have no stability issues, even carving at top speed.
