The Julbo Sherpa is the choice of budget minded explorers. Let's face it, expedition costs are not cheap. Add multiple air fares on top of mountains of expensive gear and food and there's not much left over for incidentals. The Sherpa offers full bright light protection, reducing visible light by 88% with Julbo's Spectron X3 lens. Moldable temples, removable side shields, and polycarbonate lens all come included. Huge value at under fifty bucks! (Good lookin' shades, too.) Excellent choice for skiers, snowboarders and mountaineers alike.
Bottom Line: Great value for valuable protection—Julbo has been doing it for over a century.
Between price and performance. worth every penny... Cheap enough to not worry about too much but high performance to really get the job done! eye protection at a premium price shouldnt be over looked. BONUS: when taking your glasses off momentarily you can just pull them below your chin and the ear/temple rests keep them on your face for quick adjustments.
They aren't available on their website but give them a call (800-651-0833) or send them an email (info@julbousa.com) and tell them what you need. I hear their customer service is pretty good.
I needed something that could prevent snow blindness and not fog up - the Sherpa's passed that test. I have a narrow face that is usually difficult to fit sunglasses to - Pass. Other reviewers note that they scratch easily yes they do. And the nose rest is not the most comfortable as far as sunglasses nose rests go. Since these succeed on the main points that I bought these for, I recommend these sunglasses.
Why does it say in the description that these are a "huge value at under forty bucks" yet the price is listed at 44.95. Yes, I guess I am cheap but I think the description should at least be true.
If you want the best value for your bucks, buy Julbo. I live in the mountains and my shades take a beating in the backcountry. Comes with a hard shell case for storing so they don't get smashed. I lost my last pair so they aren't too expensive to replace. You can get better shades but no where near this price.
Yes, they will work for fishing. And yes, the side shields are included. However, you might want to consider something with a polarized lens that will cut down on the flat light reflecting off of water.
For the price, these are pretty nice glasses. They do a great job protecting the eyes from glare and wind, and they stay in place very well thanks to the long rubberized earpieces.
The primary weakness of these glasses is that they have a cheap plastic frame, and also the lenses are not very durable -- one of the lenses has a small crack after a month of admittedly pretty rough use.
These offer great protection, even on the brightest day on the water. Although somewhat of a PIA to put on single handed, these things are very comfortable to wear and they never fall off your head. I go through a pair every two years or so mostly through lens wear, scratches etc. Ive only broken one pair. That, unfortunately, was under the wheels of a jeep. Otherwise, no problems at all. If you judge sunglasses by how much you spend, or how pretty they look - these glasses are not for you. If you want good protection and comfortable wear, I would strongly suggest you check these out.
Having been an avid fisherman for many, many years, I have always been on the lookout for quality durable sunglasses. I have gone through numerous pairs but have found that every pair needed something more. I came across your website looking for "Ice breaker" sunglasses. After receiving my order, I immediately put them to use and have not been disappointed. For anyone who wishes to have a supreme pair of sunglasses while enjoying their favorite outdoor sport, I truly recommend the Julbo Ice breaker sunglasses. You won't be let down!
i got these as a more inexpensive set of shades for all seasons. the wrap around ear pieces are flexible rubber and will not fall off your face. the side shades come off easy for warm weather, and it comes with a handy dandy hard shell case. definitely worth the $$$, i love mine.
I purchased the Julbo Micorpore Alti Arc X8 sunglasses but the weld broke. I'm looking for another pair but they don't have them. The lenses are great but I've read where the frames are weak. I still would like another pair but I can't find them. They have the X5 but I'd like the darker X8. Too bad for me.
These glasses are a great value for people who need dependable equipment that won't break the bank. The lenses are glass and subject to the usual scatches. My biggest problem was when the rubber coating on the ear piece started to tear, the lubricant that slid it on the side rail was greasy and took a while to wear off. Once off, the ear loops didn't have the rubber but work just as good without it. I have had my pair for two years now and will buy another pair this season.
