Why carry a pot, a stove, and a cup when you can carry just one Jetboil? The Jetboil stove is a self-contained cooking system that is a little larger than a Nalgene bottle. A super efficient canister stove is locked to a mug to form a single, connected system. Thanks to a patented “Flux Ring” that distributes heat evenly over the bottom of the cup, the Jetboil can boil a cup full of water in 30 seconds. The Companion Cup version of the Jetboil PCS simply comes with an extra cup for ultralight backpacking with two people. The Jetboil's cup can be removed and switched so you can cook two portions separately. The base and canister nest inside one of the mugs for transport and both have insulating sleeves to protect your hand and hold heat inside. A handgrip strap gives you something to hold onto so the hot stuff goes into your mouth, not your lap. Fuel canister not included.
Bottom Line: The smallest two-person cookset around.
Definitely a must have for camping/backpacking. Its really easy to use and I must say that it heats up a lot quicker than I expected. I have yet to turn the gas up all the way because I have burned a few meals just having it halfway open. The insulating sleeve did melt in a couple areas so before I fire it up I make sure that I pull the sleeve up at least a half an inch above the metal ring. Overall really pleased and I definitely recommend the maintenance kit when buying this system.
was not impressed with this stove. The ignition electrode is surrounded by a thin piece of porcelain that breaks and has to be lit with a lighter. The neoprene melts on the cup when there is no wind. All you can cook is water and its hard to clean. I would stick with a different container stove
The Jetboil performs quite well. What I like best is the how compact it is and the coffee press you can get for it. You can fit the gas canister, burner and heat exchanger, coffee press and the pot support and stability kit all into one cup. It is quite energy efficient and relative fast, but I must admit that I now would rather have bought the MSR Reactor Stove after seeing how well it performs...much faster, more fuel efficient and silent and almost as compact. These stoves are in my opinion mainly for heating water so I don't see the need for a companion cup. For the gourmet cook I would recommend another stove even if you can use the group cooking system or some other pot.
This is the way to go if you like to do the freeze dried meals or if you make your own dehydrated meals. Also being able to stow everthing inside of the cooking cup is very convenient. No looking around your pack for any of your pieces with this system.
Take an alternative ignition source always cause this piezo will fail in no time. Works pretty good overall but, i would take a look at snopeak if your in the market.
I got the Jetboil with Companion Cup for my boyfriend's two-week sabbatical to the Alaskan bush. He came back from the wilds with a new found love for boiling water in 30 seconds. He cooks in it all the time, even at home! It's easy to use and easy to clean. Our lives would not be complete without it.
I used a Jetboil for the first time last weekend on a gear check for the PCT. Its a great stove combo. The extra cup makes it very convenient for two people. Its very fast at boiling and worked well in the rain.
I tried melting snow at 8,000 feet and it did really well. Really nice integrated system with built in peizo igniter. MSR may have dialed the XGK and dragon fly as far as heat output, but this is a good system for those who don't want to deal with pumping and liquid gas. This stove packs the punch, use it will confidence.
