JanSport Endeavor Summit 45 Backpack – 2800cu in - 2005

Ed Viesturs doesn't have time to mess around. The Jansport Endeavor Summit 45 Backpack was designed to meet the light-pack needs of Ed and, by extension, less extreme mountaineers who prefer the taste of oxygen, thank you very much. The Endeavor Summit focuses on being tough and light for 2-day attacks on summits. Dual Hypalon ice-tool holsters with cinch straps offer speedy access to sharp objects. The two compression straps on each side of the pack are long enough that you can use them to lash on gear or just squash the pack down. The five-point claw lid lets you overload this top-loader into the bivy extension collar when you need just a little more space. This expands the volume from 2800 cubic inches to 3200cu inches. The Endeavor Summit 45 is part of the pro series for a reason; serious mountaineers need look no further.

Bottom Line: Built by Ed Viesturs, tough enough for you. Meet the Jansport Endeavor Summit 45 Backpack.

Light is good, heavy is bad

This pack is about as stripped down as they come. It’s pretty well a sack with a (removable) lid. If you’re planning on a 40lb or less load, than it’s a pretty good bag. Don’t carry any more than that. I was stuck with an 80lb load on one trip and ripped the shoulder straps right off this thing. Jansport replaced them for free but it still didn’t help with the hike out. The waist belt doesn’t fit a waist smaller than 30in very well.
