Inov 8 Roclite 285 Trail Running Shoe - Men's - 2008

When you strap on the Inov8 Men's Roclite 285 Trail Running Shoe, you make a commitment to yourself. This high performance trail and adventure-racing shoe expects you to sprint over logs and rocks as if your life depended on it. Inov8 gave the Roclite 285 its maximum level of breathability and a sticky rubber outsole for short bursts of fast running—like fleeing the one-armed man. Inov8's Meta Flex upper and five-finger shank provide excellent support for rapid adjustments in varying terrain while the fascia-band—a replication of your foot's plantar fascia ligament—aids the propulsion efficiency of the running cycle and reduces fatigue.

Bottom Line: Leaves your pursuers in the dust.

Favorite trail running shoe

Lightweight and great traction even on wet rocks. Toes are tapered so that roots and rocks don't grab and trip you. I wear them when running the Appalachian trail in NH and VT. They even aren't bad on the road when I take the occasional shortcut home.

Super comfortable

These are very light and comfortable, they don't have hard soles like cleats but are more like wrestling shoes with a pliant sole and a great amount of traction. They are good for running, but the flexible sole makes them difficult for rocky terrain and I wouldn't substitute them for lightweight boots as some lightweight hikers are trying to do.

Trail racing flat? Yes!

While I don't wear these shoes to train in, I have run several 50Ks in these shoes and I have performed very well in them. They are very light, and can climb up a tree. Traction on these shoes are excellent - it is almost like a soccer cleat or a xc cleat for your hardcore trail runner. Not a lot of toe protection so be careful when you run on very rocky terrain. Also, not a lot of ankle support (I knew both of these things when I got the shoe). If you can handle them, they will make you feel like a pro!
