Icebreaker made the regular-fit Men's SuperFine140 Tech T Lite from its lightest, finest merino fibers. This short-sleeved top feels soft as a tissue and performs better than any synthetic top in your closet. Since merino postpones the point at which your body breaks a sweat, you'll stay dry and comfortable much longer than you would in most tech tees. Icebreaker brought the Tech T-shirt's side and shoulder seams forward to provide a more natural fit and minimize chafing while you run or hike.
Bottom Line: For 365 days of lightweight moisture-wicking performance, go with the merino wool Icebreaker Tech T Lite.
I wore it for a week straight and it truly did not stink. Very light, feels very smooth. Like butter. I will buy another when it wears out or if I see one on SAC.
This is my first icebreaker with many more in the future. Agreed it's a little pricey but the stink free workouts are worth it. I no longer worry about having to get in the elevator with one of my neighbors after a run. Bottom line this is the best workout shirt I've ever owned.
I love this shirt. It has nice t-shirt cut to it. I have other Icebreaker BodyFit style shirts that fit very close. This one is more relaxed, looks and feels great. Excellent for running in the heat.
Probably a medium would be good, to double check there is a sizing chart under the drop down menu, but with your height I think the small is too short.
This is my first piece of 100% merino, and I wish I never bought it. I absolutely love it and want more, but can't dump 50 or 60 bucks a pop on t-shirts. I was much better off not knowing what I was missing. Damn you, Icebreaker!
I have problems w/ sweaty t shirts. Any synthetic material never gets clean. I've had an icebreaker for a year and loved it. So much so that I bought 2 more. I am a wool convert. I even started to switch my cycling jerseys to wool.
I first bought a Patagonia Capilene T-Shirt...it dried very, very quickly, but it would smell awful. Then I bought this shirt and it doesn't smell, but it doesn't dry nearly as fast as the Capilene shirt. I did find this shirt scratchy the first time I wore it, however, after the first wash it was better.
I bought two of these to alternate using while trekking 8 days over the Ouachita National Forest. They are lightweight, ultra-comfortable, and they do not hold odor; at least not until after a long time being used. Mine never picked up my odor after eight tough days in the field. I definitely recommend this shirt!
I like this as a base layer or by itself on warm days. It does get a bit itchy under pack shoulder straps, and the stitching under the arms causes it to bunch funny under other layers. I like that it's not so tight it can be worn as a casual shirt too.
I purchased one of these last year, for wearing on my 10 mile (each way) bike commute to/from work. I also purchased a few biking jerseys at the same time. The jerseys are at the bottom of the pile and I have since purchased 4 more of these shirts. I wear them on all my climbs as my base layer.
Yes, they are expensive. But they are worth it. I can wear one for days in the backcountry, a feat I won't subject my climbing partners to with any other fabric. Wash them in woolite and turn them inside out before washing. To dry, I let our dining room chairs each wear one.
I LOVE these shirts! So comfortable and super functional. it dries quickly and does a great job of regulating your temp and keeping you comfortable. Bought two of them and wore them on 12 day backpacking trip to West Coast Trail- slept in them(kept me from sweating in the sleeping bag) hiked in them(kept me from getting overheated on the trail), Layer well and kept me warm on the cool nights camped on the beach, live in them at home and they do not stink no matter how hard you work!! They wash/launder well on delicate- no problems- air dry and good as new! Good buy and good product! I recommend highly!
It's been eight years since I brought back my first Icebreaker T-shirt from New Zealand ... and I've still got it and I still use it. The size has shrunk slightly with all the laundries but that is as advertised. This new one has a slightly looser fit (which I don't like so much, actually, thus only 4 stars) but the lighter quality makes it suitable for warmer conditions (which I like). Comfy to wear and does not smell -- GREAT.
I took a gamble on the blue one. Glad I did. Not only was it cheaper, but it is much darker as well. It's not that bright neon in the pic, it's a much more subtle tone. I'm 6'0, 185lbs, and the large fits pretty slim.
Wow. This shirt is amazing. I have many wicking shirts. What intrigued me about the merino wool was the ability to prevent body odor from clinging to it. I immediately put this to the test and did about 7 mountain bike rides without a wash. While most baselayers could kill a cockroach they smell so bad, this one maintained only a slight odor. Way better than other baselayers that can smell so bad I lose friends and potential dates. The shirt wicked well and was comfortable. Now I don't have to smell horrible when I go into the bar for that post ride beer. Awesome!
Light, soft, and looks good. Not only does this shirt wick moisture extremely well, it won't start to smell for days! I'm 5'8", 160 lbs and the medium fits perfectly (a little big at first, shrinks down to the perfect size). As soon as I get more money, I'm buying the other 5 colors.
Icebreaker's sizing is inconsistent. I am wearing a newly purchased shirt in Medium that fits exactly the same as a Small I bought last year...yet another Medium I tried on was bigger.(I haven't changed size and all my other clothes fit the same including the old shirt.) I have found this to be the case in their boxers too. You cannot trust the size charts or labels anymore. I don't have any faith in their quality control at this point. I think the China outsourcing is biting them in the butt.
I LOVE this shirt. it is so comfortable and super functional. it dries quickly and does a great job of regulating your temp and keeping you comfortable. it's a little fragile, but mostly in the washer. I have a few little holes from the washing machine. I would recommend with any washable wool that you wash it in a pillow case or mesh laundry bag, just to keep it safe. I also don't wash mine very much. I just hang it up and let it air out. It's usually good to go in a few hours
The first thing you need to do is get over the sticker shock - my experience has been that whenever gear has the word "tech" or "technical" in the title, it will be expensive - and also worth it. I travel a lot - between 50,000 and 100,000 air miles a year and only use carry on luggage. The Superfine 140 Tech T works equally well in warm or cold weather, takes up minimal room in my carry-on bag, and easily launders in my hotel sink and is line dry by the next morning - and it does not smell in between washings. My advice is get two, carefully alternate them, and if you are a minimalist like me you will not need any other undershirt-type apparel.
"You payed that for a T Shirt?!?" asked my wife. True, there is a little sticker shock, and yes, on first wear it feels like it's made of steel wool. But after a good wash or two it felt great. Kept me nice and warm on a poorly-planned mountain bike outing in a downpour, and I didn't smell like poop afterwards. Stink power is much better than capilene. Just buy one and try it out.
