Icebreaker Nature Sweetheart Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's
The new Icebreaker Women's Nature Ultralite SweetHeart Long-Sleeve Top has style you rarely find in long underwear. With a low neckline, pigment print, and a slim fit, you won't want to hide this merino wool top underneath another shirt or your jacket. And you don't have to, if you're something of an exhibitionist or you're lounging at home—otherwise, wear the lightweight SweetHeart top underneath your other layers when you hike, camp, or walk to work on a chilly day. Wearing wool as underwear sounds crazy, but Icebreaker's merino wool is not only non-itchy, it's as soft as cotton and as fine as silk.
Bottom Line: The Icebreaker Nature Ultralite—long-john warmth meets lingerie style.
The sweatheart top keeps me warm and toasty. I am a petite, short but not that small in the waist. The sleeves are always too long for my short arms. Maybe you can create a special petite for older people under 5'2", but not so small in the middle. I find it a bit snug at the waist but overall a great buy.
I travel. I travel a LOT. Bought my first Icebreaker Nature Ultralite sweetheart top in Australia at a merino specialty store. I bought it because Spring in Australia is often really quite chilly, and right after that I was going to be in the UK just in time for winter to set in. Ever been in the UK during winter? Impossible to dress for -- everywhere indoors, including public transportation like buses and the Tube, is heated to strip-off-your-clothes temperature, and outside it is really cold.
This top answers that need perfectly. When it's really over-heated, you don't feel too hot and the soft, truly non-itchy merino really does wick off the glow without getting stinky. When it's cold, it offers a thin layer underneath a heavy jacket or coat that keeps you warm all out of proportion to the tissue-thin thickness of the thing. If it's really cold out, I can layer it over a camisole (also Icebreaker merino) and be toasty warm with just a shell or a vest without feeling like I'm smothered in clothing. If it's really really cold, I put another top over this layer, and stay happy as a cricket on the hearth.
The neck isn't that low-cut, so I don't feel over-exposed, often important when you're traveling in places you're not familiar with -- I didn't even feel self-conscious in Singapore. The lighter colors are a bit see-through, so I only wear pinks or nude colors underneath those. (It's not a sweetheart neck, just a medium high v-neck.)
Best of all for the high mileage traveler, you really can go without washing Icebreaker pieces for weeks. I dribbled some soy sauce on a pale blue sweetheart top, normally the kiss of death for a shirt. Worse, I didn't notice it for a while, and it dried. Ouch. A bit of water and some dabbing with a paper towel, and it looked like new. Holy cow, I thought, I gotta buy more of these. And they simply refuse to get stinky, even if you do.
I bought Red Island (sort of the Aus version of Icebreaker) at the same time I bought Icebreaker. While I like their merino tops and do wear them, it's the Icebreaker Ultralite I keep reaching for.
Expensive and pricey, on your first cash outlay, yes. But frankly, since I've bought the Icebreaker items, I'd say I wear them most days, and am planning tonight on paring down my luggage and keeping it mainly to merino wool, so I think my cost-to-wear ratio is going to be pretty good. New strategy: keep an eye on the outlet and when there's a sale on, and buy-buy-buy. Then have my friend in the States send it to me wherever the heck I am on the planet.
I may make it back home in a year or so. Icebreaker will keep me from breaking my back hauling my luggage all over the globe, I'll look stylish and hip, feel like I'm wearing lux goods, and laundry will be far off in the future. What more could you ask from your clothes?
How does this compare to Smartwool? I absolutely love wool, but am hesitant to buy without feeling it first? Not all wool products are manufactured equally! Thanks
I think Icebreaker is superior to Smartwool - they have very high quality products. I am addicted to it and have a lot of tops and bottoms of all different weights. All of them are soft, non itchy and last for years with machine wash and air dry. I think of it as an investment as will wear each garment for years.Shona
I purchased this shirt when I was in New Zealand and like it very much. I wear it over a camisole when temps are about 50F-70F for the day. I prefer this type of wool t-shirt to cotton, especially when the temps warm up during the day and then get chilly again at night.
The last wool base-layer I bought was a smartwool pointelle. Every wool baselayer I tried since then got returned. Finally - I have found it's match and more...there's nothing better than a baselayer that you don't have to think about once you put it on. This top is not baggy, but not tight, not stinky, not itchy, and not at the back of my closet.
I don't have this actual shirt but I swear by Icebreaker in general. This is pretty lightweight for a baselayer (i.e. for colder temp you will want to look for a heavier weight, think more like 260 weight). I find that the merino wool does a better job of regulating my temperature and wicking moisture than silk (plus it doesn't get nearly as smelly), and at this weight it feels like cotton, super thin and stylish to boot. But that's just my opinion. . .
I absolutely love icebreaker. Superb quality that just gets softer and softer with time. Great fit, not too tight and my favorite part is the length...a bit longer to keep you covered properly.
Bought to take as a base layer on a kayak trip but find that I wear it all the time, including with jeans out to dinner. The other IceBreaker top I ordered didn't fit, so the sizing is inconsistent, but I love this top and it fit the way the size chart said. I've purchased short sleeve icebreaker tees and they don't smell, even when you sweat, and icebreaker dries super quick. Love it!
It's thin enough to wear under slim-fitting tops, but still provides a lot of warmth. The neckline is low enough that the shirt doesn't show. Also, it feels very soft, not at all itchy. Icebreaker seems to run a little large. I usually wear a small (5'3", about 118 lb), but I get XS in Icebreaker.
I bought this for my girlfriend, she absolutely loves it. No more Michelin man, just a thin warm layer. She pretty much hasn't taken it off since it arrived.
I love these shirts. This is my 3rd and first long sleeve one and it fits so great. I love to wear it as a base layer and I never get itchy. Doesn't smell and looks cute too!
I love this top! I can wear it for several days without having to wash, it doesn't retain odor...wonderful for travel. Flattering cut even though it fits slightly loose. Its a base laser but I wear a camisole under it and wear it like a top. So soft you barely realize your wearing it!
The cut and fit of this shirt has made it my favorite out of the three Icebreaker Nature shirts that I own. The v-neck is very flattering and it is fitted without being tight. It layers very well under other Icebreaker or CW-X products. It is cute by itself with jeans or on a run or in the mountains. I have this shirt in the silk color and it is a beautiful, heathered purple/gray. I find myself reaching for it time and again. Icebreaker runs true to size in my opinion, I'm 5'6" 135-ish and mediums fit me perfectly.
