Made from 100% Merino wool, the Men's BodyFit260 Slalom Zip top is the warmest performance underwear in the world according to Icebreaker. Whether you use it alone on an early spring run or layer it under your ski clothes, this two-tone zip top is far softer than conventional wool and does not itch. Thumb loops and a three-way zipper keep this top sealed tightly, so you can take advantage of all the warmth that the Merino wool has to offer. On longer trips you'll find that the Slalom Zip does not hold odor, even after weeks of continuous use. This top is ideal for keeping the stink level down on expeditions or just staying warm while you're skiing.
Bottom Line: As warm as a sheep, but better looking.
I made the mistake of purchasing this for something other than insulation use. I figured it could be used on it's own, but it's much too tight and designed primarily as a base-layer. I just don't like the zip-up neck, which can be problematic for larger necks. It's flimsy, and does not fold down as a collar (as pictured) for everyday use.
I have wanted an icebreaker piece for some time now, and with the slight price drop in place i decided to drop the cash for one. I am not disappointed at all. I love the thumb loops and have wanted a piece with them for some time. The piece is extremely warm without being a sauna. My only problem with this piece so far is that i have noticed small threads have been coming loose and i can defiantly see how these could pill in the future. if you can get over the fact that this is not going to look like a smooth synthetic material then buy this, you wont be sorry.
Maybe it was a different batch of wool but it the Slalom Zip was just too scratchy for me. It did feel very soft to the touch when I got it but I wasn't comfortable with the way it hung on me. Good-looking top though. Funny enough; I went with the Technical Zip Shirt and it is pretty darn comfy. I might just have to try different shirts until I find the one I like.
After three days of snowboarding, snowshoeing, and sitting around the lodge in Whistler, this top had almost no detectable odor. It was the only thing I had on under my soft shell out layer. I was never too hot and it kept me warm enough on the lifts. I think I will use it on the slopes again this weekend without washing it. I was converted to Icebreaker a year ago and have since thrown away all of my synthetic base layer and midlayer clothing.
How do they do it? I received a Slalom Zip for Christmas, and it has now replaced everything else in my gear closet. I've yet to take it off, or even wash it. Nordic skiing, touring, playing with my dog and then out to dinner at night, the Slalom Zip does it all. I wish the collar was a bit lower, but I can live with it. This shirt rocks!
The hype around merino wool is true! Can't believe how warm such a thin layer is - comfortable and good looking as well - three way neck is a great addition. Far and away the best base layer I have ever owned.
This particular garment is stellar. Can be worn as a baselayer or midlayer; technical enough for high-output activity but stylish enough for around-town wear. Nice cut, hem/sleeve lengths plenty long, superbly comfortable...I've really gotten hooked on Icebreaker gear lately, every piece I have is first-rate, check this out.
I am biased, I love Merino. Last year I got the body fit and it is great for touring, but I got this for riding the lifts. it is just what you need for those cold days riding cable. I think it is softer and silkier than the body fit.
