Icebreaker Skin200 Oasis Crew - Men's - 2007

The Icebreakers Skin200 Oasis Crew is a great all-around lightweight base layer made from incredibly versatile natural material: Merino wool. Merino isn't your average wool, which means the Oasis Crew isn't your average base layer. The Oasis gives you incredible breathability and resists getting stinky for days thanks to the unique properties of Merino. The Oasis is soft and unfailingly warm against your skin. The Oasis Crew is so effective at maintaining your temperature you'll think you're a mountain sheep of some sort. The Oasis lets you move freely and is cut long, so it won't ride up and expose your skin to the air.

Bottom Line: A kinder, gentler wool, compliments of the Icebreaker Skin Oasis Crew.

Excellent base layer

By:
October 17, 2007

I own multiple skin 200 pieces and I am very pleased. next to skin fit isn't really conducive for wearing alone like the bodyfit 260, but great for sleeping in winter at home and layering while backpacking.

I am a convert

By:
October 1, 2007

I am used to synthetic base layer and decided to try something made from wool on my trip to Island Peak in Nepal (Sep 07). The Oasis Crew is very comfortable and after 6 days of wearing it, there is no pong at all. However, it is more difficult to dry compared to synthetic. Will recommend this.

Loving Icebreaker! I am hooked.

By:
May 7, 2007

I discovered Icebreaker while visiting New Zealand and the locals raved about it. I picked up a few pieces of Icerbeaker while "down under" and have been stocking here through Backcountry.com ever since. I am in love with the light wool shirts, in that they make great undershirts, t-shirts, and in particular gym shirts. They are soft, always comfortable, and wick sweat very well for exercising. It is true, they don't seem to absorb sweat and smell the way cotton shifts or some synthetics do. My girlfriend is particularly fond of the long-sleeve shirts to wear at nighttime, and they seem to make her very happy (and cuddly) - something we both like!

the best baselayer for running a mountain high in a cold season

By:
March 20, 2006

I was looking for the underwear besides of Patagonia. I felt the cold while wearing Patagonia, which was always damp with sweat when I stood on a peak while trail running. However, after wearing IceBreaker, I did not feel such cold once. It is a fiber which has not shrunk even if it washes violently with a washing machine. The form fits the body very much. It is the best for running a mountain in a cold season.

The BodyFit line used to be called the Skin line. So the Skin200 is the same as the BodyFit200, only older.

Worth every penny

By:
September 20, 2007

This is the best baselayer that I have tried on. I was all about synthetics since the pricing of merino wool has always been steep. Yet, after I wore this baselayer on a couple of hikes from warm condition to cold I was convinced that icebreaker is definitely one of the best out there. The wool breathes so well and it really doesn't stink like the synthetics. Very comfortable.

One of my favorites

By:
September 20, 2007

I'm glad I took a chance on this merino wool item, rather than my usual synthetic base layer. Super comfortable and amazingly low stink after several days of hiking. I might rethink the super white color, which was great, but of course trail dirt really shows and does not completely wash out easily. But I would buy this brand and type garment again.

classy all-purpose crew

By:
December 20, 2004

I've worn this crew on Southern California desert hikes, in the gym, as a night shirt, around town, and as a base layer downhill skiing in Colorado. It feels great, dries almost as fast as poly, and stays odor-free. The ingenious sewing pattern completely avoids any under-arm seams, so there's no chance of chafing.

My favorite IceBreaker (and I like them all)

By:
January 25, 2007

This Oasis Crew (weight 200, lightweight) is incredibly comfortable and useful. Works in the winter by itself indoors (can keep the house cool and save $$) or outdoors as a first layer. In warmer months, still comfortable by itself although I doubt I would don it if temps soared over 90ºF. You hardly know this piece of clothing is on except for the fact that you are nice and comfortable.

Excellent for layering

By:
February 8, 2007

Merino wool is great stuff! This top is light, close fitting, soft, and regulates your temperature nicely.
It's not as tight as Under Armour (at least not on me I'm 6'-1, 165 lbs) but is still easily layered. Put this under a midweight fleece or windbreaker, you'll love it.
I use it for snow sports, hiking, and fishing. I have not been let down. Ice Breaker makes a very nice product.

excellent base layer

By:
February 16, 2007

I've worn this baselayer in cool, wet and warm , dry conditions and it hasn't failed me yet. The merino wool is soft, comfortable and incredibly warm yet light and airy. This will become a "must take" piece of clothing on all backcountry trips. Try it, I bet you won't be disappointed.

Great Wool

By:
March 27, 2007

Wore the Icebreaker Oasis Crew with a heavier weight Icebreaker crew over it for seven days of Heli-skiing in 15 to 25 degree weather. That and a great Gore Tex soft shell from North face were perfect. Wearing another layer on the day I thought it was too cold made me sweat too much. I now wear only wool light layers skiing. It only smells when it gets wet for a few minutes. Definitely unzip vents or in the copter zip down jacket so you do not overheat. Then zip back up when you go out and everything is fine.

Ice Breaker Skin Oasis Crew

By:
December 22, 2006

This has got to be the best winter running shirt I have ever had. I have worn it in weather down to 0 degrees as a base layer and alone in weather around the 25-40 degree mark. It breathes well, and the moisture wicking fabric is awesome. I use it to run in, and it has been excellent.

Icebreaker Oasis Crew

By:
December 1, 2004

I bought a Icebreaker Wingzip on a trip to Oz a few years back. Though it cost me nearly as much as my belay jacket, I have been VERY thankful I got it. I broke down and bought an Oasis Crew and another Wingzip this year. The Oasis seems even softer than the heavier shirt, yet gives a lot of warmth for the weight. The hype about wool not stinking is so true, and this quality is wonderful!

Wool in the hot summer

By:
July 29, 2005

Who would have thought that one could wear wool in the heat of the summer and be comfortable? I used this merino wool top on a 4-day excursion into the eastern High Sierras above 10,000 feet. The sun was warm and the air temp was in the mid 80's even at altitude, but this top kept me comfortable, absorbed the sweat and was relatively sun protective. What really impressed me was that I did not stink after wearing this top day and night for 4 days. A further benefit occurred each time I hit a pass and wind picked up. I would don my Patagonia Dragonfly Windshirt, and, between the Oasis top and the windshirt, I was able to stay warm and avoid the wind chill factor. I am sold on wearing wool even in the summer, especially in the Sierras.

My Dad Loved It

By: Backcountry.com Employee
September 22, 2006

Here is the email that I got from my dad. I gave him this shirt for his birthday. He is a marathon runner in Chicago. "I ran this morning with the new shirt you gave me. LOVE IT! The temp was 40 degrees and the shirt performed stunningly. Amazingly I didn’t need a vest or jacket or any other layers! My body stayed the perfect temp, while running and even after. (usually my dri fit type shirts get really cold and clammy when I stop.)
Oh, and did I mention that it’s extremely comfortable! So soft and form fitting."
