Icebreaker Sport320 Rock Zip Long Sleeve - Men's - 2006
The Icebreaker Men's Long-Sleeve Sport320 Rock Zip gives you the comfort of New Zealand merino wool in a midweight layer perfect as skiing or snowboarding insulation or just a comfortable winter shirt. The Rock Zip, with its uniquely stylish two-tone block, is especially well-suited to travel—wear it for days on end without a hint of that scented ‘ripeness' we all know too well. Thumb loops help keep cold at bay and your sleeves un-rumpled inside your jacket. Merino has some incredible advantages over synthetic fabrics: it keeps its heat-retaining properties when wet, prevents body odor build-up, offers expedition-weight warmth at half the bulk, and rivals many synthetics in breathability.
Bottom Line: Incredible natural comfort and warmth from the Icebreaker Rock Zip.
This is an great midl ayer garment. What I like most about it is that the fit around the neck loose and not the least bit tight. I hate outdoor clothes that is constricting around the neck! The best part of the garment is the merino wool, which does not seem to become freezing when your activity level decreases. One not of caution: I have had a few other Icebreaker garment develop holes or rips along the seems. They were exchange without any problem. So keep your receipt
Just what you'd expect from a $100 wool top. Nice for layering, well made, looks good, heavier that synthetic but 100 times better smelling for actual backpacking. I wonder how well they wear with long term use as an outer layer- with backpack abrasion for instance?
I purchased one at the beginning of last year's season and found it to be the warmest top I have. It is even warm when wet. I bought a second one mid season because I was so impressed. The second one shrank in the wash (the first did not). Ideally do not dry in a machine, but what are you going to do on travel?
I gave the Icebreaker to a friend for Christmas, and he has hardly taken it off since. The weather in New England has been brutal this year, and he wears it on the coldest days. He says it keeps him extremely warm, and it is comfortable to wear as a bottom or middle layer. (And even though he wears it many times a week, it has yet to get a stink to it.) It looks good, is super-soft, and seems to be a pleasure to wear. I will be asking for one myself soon.
Good stuff. Nice weight wool, well put together and I love that it never gets stinky like synthetics. Only wish the fit was a little closer to the body so it wouldn't shift around so much when running, cycling, etc.
Simply put Icebreaker rocks! I have over 10 pieces of Icebreaker clothing and love them all. NZ merino wool is the best available and outperforms any synthetic 10 to 1. No stink, warm when wet, wear numerous times w/o washing, less bulk more warmth, warm in winter cool in summer. I could go on and on but you really have to try the NEW wool to believe me.
Having tried synthetics as mid layers for a number of years it is obvious to me that icebreaker clothing is better by far. It does not "stink" after hard use, it breathes, it insulates and best of all its machine washable. Its great for the environment too! (Editor's Note: But not machine dryable. Don't put wool gear in tumble dryers!)
This is one amazing mid-layer. Extremely comfortable, warm, stylish...it is my new favorite piece of gear. Most other brands don't fit me well, as I am fairly tall and have a long torso. This fits perfectly. No belly-button showing here. Just don't tumble dry it.
Icebreaker is the perfect clothing for anyone who moves in the outdoors. I wore a single lightweight long sleeve shirt for a week long mountain biking trip from Telluride to Moab, and it kept me comfortable in temperatures from 50-90F, blocked the sun, and didn't hold any odor for the entire week! The Rock Zip does the exact same thing in a slightly different temperature range. 30-65F, depending on how you layer. I carry less clothing on multi-days than ever, because two layers of Icebreaker and a shell cover such a wide range of conditions. I gave away all my miracle fabrics two years ago and will never wear them again.
After purchasing a couple of pieces of Icebreaker for my wife, I ended up buying one for myself...the Rock Zip. Needless to say, I now own about six Icebreaker pieces and my wife owns about eight. I can't say enough about the product, it's warm when it needs to be, cool when it requires it, doesn't stink (and let me tell you how great that is!), I haven't had an issue with any shrinkage, but then I wash cold and hang dry just to avoid the possibility. Buy Icebreaker, your wallet will thank you in the long-run!
I've been really pleased with this sweater. Like others have noted, it really covers a wide range of temperatures and conditions. I wore it kayaking on a 70-degree day in March, and was perfectly comfortable. It's a ski staple, and is warm on the slopes (under a shell) and not too warm in the lodge. I've washed mine several times; lay it flat to dry. It shows a very minor amount of piling. It's enough that it's not quite as crisp as new, but not enough to stop me from wearing it to work in the winter.
