Highgear Axis Watch - 2004

There's a lot of satisfaction in being able to see how much vert you've picked up, and even more to be had being prepared for ugly weather. The Highgear Axis Watch offers you an altimeter, barometer, and compass in a sleek, stylish watch. The Altimeter can store up to 20 altitude points with time and date data and tracks accumulated altitude. Both altimeter and barometer are tied to the digital thermometer to keep them honest when things warm up or cool down. A chronograph and double alarms round out the Axis into an impressively versatile sports instrument.

Bottom Line: Navigation data without the dorky instrument panel look.

I’ve had this watch for about one month. The thermometer is way off and so is the altimeter. I’ve also noticed that the barometer is off sometimes. It said it would be raining when there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. I am very unhappy with this watch. I would not suggest buying it.

really enjoy this watch

I love this watch! It's the smallest altimeter I could find. It has just the right amount of features and is very easy to use.

Awesome watch

Well the style of the watch is cool, very light and easy to use. I bought the bone coloured and after wearing for 2 weeks it starts to discolour and turn a green-like but hey I'm not worried bout that. The barometric function I believe is %92 accurate which is pretty darn good, I mean I live in New Zealand and our climate changes likes you change your underwear or something. The compass is basic and easy to use with only having to recalibrate it every once and a while over all I'm impressed. I have the Nixon delta PU and think that it's a piece of crap compared to the Higher Gear Axis. So go on try it you will love it.

digital thermometer is cr*p

By:

+'s = looks nice, smaller than other products,
-'s = digital thermometer is entirely inaccurate. I tested it off my arm to see if it was body temp thing but it's totally wrong - at least 6 degree celsius. It now says its 30 degrees celsius and I am in an air-conditioned office. Since the temp is on the face I see this inaccuracy everytime I look at the watch and it irritates me that I paid good money for something that doesnt work.

Stylish and sturdy, but not too technical

By:

I love the look and sturdiness of this watch. The face is a lot smaller than most altimeters. It has held up really well with lots of banging it around, which I can't say for most watches. But the altimeter, compass, and especially the thermometer don't work as well or accurate as I would have hoped for.

Poor design, poor quality, poor service

By:

If you want a watch that doesn't need to be returned to the manufacturer after a battery change... this ain't it. Watch needs a jeweller to dismantle it just to change the battery, after which the straps (which also have to be removed) are never likely to fit properly again. Still waiting for mine to be returned. Never actually got chance to wear it in the hills ... poor, very poor.

Very Cool Watch

By:

I got this watch last Christmas. I do a lot of hiking and I fly. Having the altimeter is useful for both. It's pretty accurate when compared to the one in the plane. I like having the one touch 2nd time zone for Zulu time. Thermometer is a bit off - seems to be off about 15 degrees F in room temperature for me. Had a watch that calculated for body temperature before and kind of miss that part. It is useful and entertaining.
