If you prefer your gloves to fit under your jacket cuffs, you will be super comfortable in the Hestra Heli Ski Short Gloves. Hestra gave these technical ski gloves a side zipper for easy on, easy off. Fiberfill insulation and wind and waterproof fabric keep you warm and dry when the helicopter drops you off on a windy peak. Hestra constructed the Heli Ski Short Glove to be very durable for years of skiing. Reinforced seams and a wear-resistant goat leather palm keep these gloves in top shape.
Bottom Line: Hestra's Heli Ski Short Gloves—warm, technical ski gloves without the extra cuff fabric.
The best glove I have ever owned (I have tried a lot - sypder, swany, cloudveil etc.) I have used mine for a year, including at Steamboat during sub-zero temperatures. They are extremely warm, and comfortable. The leather conforms to your hand after use. They are very similar to the heli glove except with an under the cuff design. Also the liner is removable. Be sure to use the leather treatment to keep water from soaking the leather.
I never thought I'd use the word "Plush" to describe ski gear... but these gloves are the exception. There are like couches for your hands. I picked them up before the 08-09 ski season and have been up with them 10+ times. I'm a 6' 6" guy with the poor circulation that comes along with it. My hands get cold easy but with these gloves I find myself taking them off on lifts because my hands get too toasty (not a drawback in my opinion). The one issue I've had is that they don't fit easily under my jacket. The gloves have this awkward pull-tab thing at the bottom that makes it hard when you have gloves on. Other than that... these gloves are amazing.
Ideally you want to have your fingertips touching the end of the glove as you make a fist. A tighter fit will give you more dexterity, but may be uncomfortable and make your digits cold. A slightly larger glove will keep you warmer.
I purchased these gloves at the beginning of last season because I wanted a good quality leather glove that fit under my cuff. These gloves are very comfortable, inside and out. They look great and of course keep my hands toasty in the nastiest of weather. I'll never go back to a non-leather glove again.
I purchased these gloves as an alternative to the full blow mittens. I really enjoyed the style, dexterity and overall warmth. However, I was very shocked this weekend to find that the seam has split on my right glove. Definitely had hoped these would be more durable. Getting them under the cuff of my soft shell does require a bit of work - but can be done.
Wow, never owned a pair of Hestra gloves. They are definitely well made and seem like they'll last. Stay warm until around 0 for me, and I get cold easy. They don't fit under the cuff unless you have a baggy jacket, I've seen people wear them over and under the cuff. I'll be buying Hestra from here on out, just check out sizing first each class of glove seems to fit different.
I've skied with these in -25C weather (-13F), but if I kept these under my sleeves, my hands actually stayed warm, which is remarkable for a non-mitten. by the way I was wearing a TNF jacket. It IS true that its not easy to tuck these back under your sleeves on your own, but when its that cold, you're better off waiting until you're indoors before taking the gloves off. Having said that, if its not that cold, like -15C or more (5F+), you wont need to keep them tucked under the sleeves, and its fine, the gloves still cover the wrist fine and they're very warm but I guess you wont be "sealed off" from the elements, ie, if you fall or something maybe you'll get a little snow on the wrist. Otherwise the leather is very nice, extremely waterproof, and preserves basic manual dexterity.
Have had them out in varying weather conditions with the same conclusion, kick-ass gloves! They kept me warm when it was cold and removed the liners when it was warm. They seem to breathe fairly well, and no problems with them getting soaked. Some reviewers use the underwater test as a barometer for water proofnes, I will find this useful when I start bustin turns underwater! Good gloves, no complaints and tough thus far
had a weird day, started off cold, well below freezing and windy, ended at about 50F, perfect for all of it, never once was too cold or too hot, just perfectly regulated. stayed dry, but haven't tried them in the rain, and hopefully never will.
I like these gloves. I might have poor circulation compared to the other reviews b/c my hands do get cold in these gloves at temps 15 or less. I'm thinking about mittens. But overall they fit well and fell good. They fit perfectly under my Patagonia jacket - can get them under even with a gloved hand no problem.
I got a pair of these to replace Hestra gloves that I've had since 1998. These new gloves are awesome. Warm and with a lot of dexterity. They look great too. If they're like the old ones they will last forever while undergoing constant use.
excellent quality glove. such a HUGE step up from the snowboard gloves i have been using. very good, not great dexterity. i ended up exchanging the men's medium for a mens small.... much better fit. they are warm until 5 degrees. fit easily under my jacket cuffs. love the "claw" grip. much more natural feel when gripping the poles... and grabbing the snowboard off a jump :^)
After trying these I ended up exchanging them and picking two different pairs of Hestra gloves. I wanted a year round under the cuff glove, and while these were warm, stylish, supple and great fit they really don't fit well under any of my jackets' cuffs. I like being able to take off my gloves, but it was a real hassle to get the glove back under the cuff especially with my Patagonia jackets which have a slightly smaller elastic cuff compared to my North Face. I think the Hestra Ski Cross is a better option for those seeking an under cuff glove, and if you really like the style of these and like a big over the cuff glove you might want to consider the Hestra Heli Glove. I own both of the previously mentioned gloves and think that they are both sick.
