Helly Hansen Odin Mountain Pant - Men's

Technical alpine pants don't get more technical than the Helly Hansen Men's Odin Mountain Pant. Full-stretch, fully seam-taped 3-ply HellyTech O2 nylon construction throughout the Odin Pant ensures total waterproofing and outstanding breathability for high-output pursuits. Welded Kevlar kick panels protect the inner legs from crampons, skis, and abrasion, while three-quarter leg zips provide emergency ventilation and snag-free dressing over boots. The Odin Pant's softshell bib section adds protection from drifting snow, then zips off to create the attachment point for Helly Hansen's Odin Jacket and Work Vest. A sewn-in RECCO reflector provides passive assistance in the event of an avalanche.

Bottom Line: Three years of R&D pays off in full with the long-awaited Odin Pant.

over priced, but decent

I bought these pants last winter as a conversion pant for resort and A/T skiing. They performed well initially (waterproof, very lightweight, nice stretch), but wore down rather quickly.

Main issue-
Last year they used an all plastic zipper assembly for the bib zip off. The zipper inevitably broke after about 40 uses. I view this as a design flaw and hopefully it will be fixed for this year.

Other issue-
The pockets are fairly tight to the legs and have no additional reinforcement, so if you store keys, chapstick or anything with rough/sharp edges, eventually you are going to ware though the material. once this happens, they lose their waterproof capability.

Unless HH makes some much needed improvements, I would not recommend this pant at anything more than $250. For $400 I don't think I should have to give the company very basic recommendations on how they should build the product, but this pant needs it.

Hows the fit on H/H clothing, never owned anything by them. Seem to be out of mediums, and wondering if i could go with the large since ill have some layers below.

So I get to answer my own question, I eneded up waiting for mediums and got the pants today. I just had a waist measuremet done last week and have a 33 in waist. The pants are very slim fitting, with a L/S shirt tucked in and some wool long underwear they were snug and it didnt feel like i would be able to layer anymore underneath. Even though H/H lists the mediums from 32.3-35.4'' there doesnt seem to be anymore room if i did need to wear another layer underneath. So in my case im going with the large for a better fit. The pants themselves look well made, all seams taped and the side zips have stiffeners to help prevent the zipper from sucking in the fabric and chewing it up. They are a little stretchy but not much, all the zippers are metal so looks like from previous posts they swapped out the plastics. They are extremely comfy against bare skin the fabric is really cool stuff, feel alot better then my old Gtex MH backcountry pants. Havent had a chance to check out waterproofness and breathability. Ive noticed that all the "waterproof" pants ive owned always let water in at the knees where the fabric is put under the most tension while moving. The removable skirt is very stretchy and comfortable. Pockets are a bit small, but they work for me since i dont like carrying things in my pant pockets. Unfortunately the gaiters are not remavable which is something i like to see, but nothing is perfect. So all in all without being able to test them in snow/rain, ill give them a four stars.

For next time you might wanna include height, weight and maybe age. So, Im not sure if a large would be okay. But going 1 size big is usually not the worst thing, it gives more room for layers and loose cut is a popular style currently.

I like-a de bib

Got to test these pants for HH later in the season, and all I can say is WOW. You like-a de bib? You zip on-a de bib. You like-a de pant? You zip off-a de bib. ANDDD, you can zip em straight to your Odin Mountain jacket or Work Vest for straight-up snow proofing. Kevlar kick panels shun my crampons with bulletproof durability. I wish I had four hands, so I could give these pants... four thumbs up. Five stars will do.

Odin Mountain Pants the best out there

By:
December 1, 2008

As a helly hansen athlete for the last three winters, I have had the I have had the opportunity to test the Odin gear, and from ski mountaineering expeditions to Patagonia or to ripping around the resort these pants have it all. The first and only pant I need in my closet. My favorite feature of the pant is that the bibs zip off and then you can zip the pant into the Odin Mountain Shell. Giving you a one piece to keep you warm and the winter elements out.
