Looking to slay it in the Helly Hansen Big Mountain Battle? You’ve come to the right place. Teams of two will take on the Helly Hansen Big Mountain Battle (courses designed by Helly Hansen and Backcountry.com athlete Chris Davenport) and compete for an all-expense-paid trip to the final Battle in the Bowls on March 29 in Aspen/Snowmass. The Battle begins at 10 am. Each team (ski, snowboard, or mixed) must complete the hikes that will be scouted by Chris Davenport. Dori Poles (bamboo poles) will be placed at the top and bottom of each hike and participants will need to go through in order for their hike or run to count. The top three teams with the best times to complete the hikes and complete the course and checkpoints will be awarded prizes. Participants will be using a Flaik GPS device to track everything. Teams can ski anywhere once they have completed the designated bowls for extra points.
There will also be other categories any team can win after completing the designated bowls; Fastest Hike, Most Vertical, Most Runs and Most Lift Rides.
Official after party after the event with beers donated by Rogue Beer (for those old enough to indulge). Cost is $75 per team, plus the cost of lift tickets, which will be available at discount for all competitors the day of. Flaik GPS’s will be providing real time stats on each team, and each participant will receive a Helly Hansen Lifa piece. Registration is limited to 100 teams per date, so lock down your spot. Approximately 48 hours after purchasing your selected location, you will receive an email from Backcountry.com with a link to finish your registration. This registration page must be completed in order to participate. If you do not see this email in your inbox, please check your spam folder as it may have automatically been deflected there. All racers will be given a race number they need to wear during the comp. This item is not returnable or exchangeable, all sales final; this item is excluded from discounts.

Hi,I see I can't buy this online anymore for Stevens Pass. I'm a little worried registering the day of the race because it may sell out. Any suggestions? Thanks,Joel
Register day of, Marc from Helly Hansen says he is expecting quite a few day of registrants... why don't you be one of them? The event is killer.***Smugglers Notch Day of Registration info***Registration is open on race day from 8am to 9:30 and will be held at the Madonna Sterling Base Lodge. Be there early to plan your attack on the course. Event starts at 10am.
Write your question here...Can employees of the host resort compete in the event? I am a manager at Smuggs and our PR department told us about this event, asked us to promote it, and told us to visit this site. I am happy to promote it, however I need to know who can participate.
Hey Deb, you can totally take part in the event. We are offering 1/2 price for mountain employees. you can sign up on event day and just show us your employee pass to receive your discount.Spread the word! Smuggs is the final stop before the Battle in the Bowls in Aspen. We want to make Smuggs the biggest stop of the series. Thanks for your email and please let me know if you have any other questions.
Hey, How will the comp be judjed at Smuggs? Will it simply be the fastest line from top to bottom or will their be judges placed around to rank us on our steeze as we rip up the slopes in style? And is only boot packing allowed, or can we skin up?Thanks,Dan
The comp will be judged by GPS. There will be checkpoints laid out throughout the mountain, designated lifts, runs and hikes you will need to do before coming into the finish. we will track everyone in real time by Flaik GPS.There won't be anyone at checkpoints or at the top or bottom of runs to watch you, we will be watching from the computer. Boot packing will be the way to go.See you there Dan
Hello Chris Davenport - TEXat Stevens Pass will there be boot track hiking or skinning? Is this a race for snowboarders, they do a randonee rally at Stevens - this sounds much different. ? What sort of loop at Stevens could we expect to see as part of the course?
Hey JS, Here is what I can tell you about the event without giving too much of the surprise away. The hike will be boot pack, snowboarders are welcome and this is nothing like a randonee. There will be designated checkpoints, hikes, lifts and runs that you must complete to finish the course. it will all be tracked by real time GPS.I hope this answers your questions. Looking forward to seeing you out at Stevens next weekend. Thanks JS
Between 2-4 hours at the first stop, Squaw Valley... each stop will be a bit different but expect the times to be about the same.Hey Ross, Marc here from Helly Hansen. Josh is right in his statement above but I thought that I would elaborate on it a bit. The comp is 4 hours in length but if you can get to all the designated checkpoints, lift rides, runs and hikes faster, then you can finish before the 4 hours are up.
No age divisions, just who can complete the selected runs and check points the quickest, as well as the most vertical drop and most runs skied, and most lift rides.
Marc here from Helly Hansen. We like to keep it a surprise for the morning of so that everyone has the same time to plan out their day. registration is open from 8am to 9:30am so the earlier you get there on event day the more time you'll have to plan out you day.
there is a men's, a ladies', and a mixed division... as well as divisions for ski, snowboard, and mixed.Marc here from Helly Hansen. There is, for this year, only one division, Open. Until the event grows we are just going to have the one division. This event is not just about speed, it's about being smart with you plan of the most efficient route around the mountain to get all the checkpoints, lifts, runs and hikes.
