Granite Gear Nimbus Latitude Backpack - 3800cu in - 2006

The Granite Gear Nimbus Latitude backpack combines lightweight materials, unique design and 3D Tepex frame technology for an innovative, functional ultralight pack. The Latitude is a culmination of the Nimbus Ozone and the Access system. The Access system allows you to reach your gear in the traditional top loading manner, or by unzipping the front panel from the top or bottom to reach gear at any latitude in your pack. Internal compression straps keep gear in place inside your bag, so you can grab gear without disorganizing the whole pack. A removable drawcord pocket functions as hidden lid-quickly take essential gear inside the tent without dragging in your whole pack. Water-resistant fabrics and zippers keep gear dry, and the 3D Tepex molded frame keeps the load light your back no matter how far you travel.

Bottom Line: The Nimbus Latitude will have you soaring on cloud nine.

Most Comfortable Pack I have ever owned

By:
July 11, 2007

I love this pack. It is a little heavy in some people's opinion, but the comfort is worth an extra pound to me. I like the panel load system and can find all my gear anytime. The lower compression straps being over the side pockets is a good idea, keeping contents locked in if I use them for that.
I would like to see an optional top pocket as you can get for some of Granite Gears other similar packs. I sometimes could use the extra room when on over 6 or 7 day hikes. Wonderful pack!

interesting idea, not working for me

By:

I wanted to like this pack, but it's not working out for me.
It's just not as comfortable as I hoped. There's lots of padding, but something about the shape of my back and the shape of the pack just doesn't work. I found the panel-loading to be a bit of a challenge: the pack has no structure when it's empty, which makes it hard to start loading. A stuff-sack-based approach to packing might work better. The inner straps were more annoying than helpful. I had some trouble strapping items like a sleeping pad to the outside. The small is an inch too short to fit a platypus big zip along the frame without folding over the top.
On the other hand, you can fit an impressive amount of stuff in here.
The floating lid is roomy and worked well, and is easy to detach and
take into your tent.
