This compact 5mpx video camera includes a wide-angle lens to get the full view of your lip and landing and show your front tire clearly when you’re throwing bar spins. With a 2gb memory card, this GoPro camera holds 56-minutes of footage, so you can turn it on at the trailhead and forget about it until you put the bikes back on the car.

I used a GoPro this winter and had great results with it. sure it's no HD camera but for filming ski lines for the web or sungle tracks its pretty much perfect. The buttons may take a little getting used to but once you know what to push it's totally straightforward. Light and easy to travel with- no wires or bulky recording devices. For the price a great little camera!

5MP Helmet HERO WIDE on bike helmet

By:
January 9, 2009

Here it is on a bike helmet. Photo is close up so it makes camera look bigger than it is. It is really light...you don't even notice it is there. Here's a sweet video shot entirely with it mounted in different locations on the bike, helmet, chest, etc:

Oi! When I search for this little beauty on your site I see that it's on offer.. but when added to the basket, no cigar! What's the deal here?

Questions for you.
1) Can you now use this device with 16GB memory cards
2) What other options are there? Is there anything else in a similar price bracket? Maybe a device that goes to 640x480 on the res?
3) My concern here is that the batteries may only last 10 minutes in -10c at a speed of 30mph... ok ok, 15mph!

Thanks, aDam

Hi Ben, (in response to Ben's question below)

Wind chill can play a massive part in premature battery depletion. So
the faster you move the colder the the helmet camera will get etc.
My last helmet cam would give me around 5hrs if I were relatively
sedate on the slopes (messing around in the park/trees etc). However, a day of racing around the slopes trying to film my mates can reduce the battery life to only a couple of hours.

Some high end helmet cameras separate the battery pack so it can be
kept sheltered/warmer to prolong the battery life... But, in my opinion, this just makes for a mess of cables!

I'm interested in hearing how people got on with this helmet cam's battery life on a cold day racing around the slopes :)

How would your speed affect the life of the battery? I don't think that the two relate...

Follow the Instructions!

By:
October 16, 2009

I couldn't stand this camera for almost a year, and then I bothered to start harassing the support staff at GoPro, and was quickly informed that the camera would only work if I used the batteries recommended in the instructions, not just any old alkalines. Holy moley, it doesn't just work, but it works exactly like it is supposed to! No zoom, no LCD, no extra crap or breakable parts--just a simple little video camera in a waterproof, shockproof box that you can mount to your helmet(s), kayak, car, bike, ski, or other relatively hard object. It takes video of what you point it at, and doesn't screw around in doing so.

Pros: Low Price. Waterproof case. Compact

Cons: Cheap design. No LCD. Hard to find buttons and know what they mean. After using it for a few months the images became very "strobey". Low imagae quality. They should bump this up to 640x480 atleast if not 1280x720 video resolution.

If you absolutely positively must have a helmet camera and you are on a budget, or you want something really small that you don't have to carry bulky separate recorder, then this is a good option for you, but beware that the image quality is not all that great.

great for GETTING X-TREME!

Not sure the guy below knew that you can easily expand the memory on this thing with a standard memory card... Anyway, this little guy is perfect for shooting hilarious videos of buddies lawn-darting while trying to stick tricks off of cornices, or for proving to your skeptical friends that you really did straightline that chute at Jackson Hole that everybody else was pansying out on. Great wide angle lens so it's easy to keep the action in-frame. You're not gonna produce a Hollywood-caliber video with this, but it's pretty awesome to be able to document your runs without lugging around a huge bulky camera (or having to stress about damaging your expensive 3-chip). Plus, it's under $200 bones, awesome.

It's really good quality...it looks good on a DVD. We use them to make videos for our trade shows and run the videos on 46" and 52" flat panels. From 10 feet away they look perfect. You can see lots of good sample footage on vimeo.com but it is compressed for the web:http://vimeo.com/videos/search:gopro+go+pro/sort:newest/format:thumbnail

They used this camera during the ECO Challenge this summer in Big Sky. They had to river board down the Gallatin on one of the highest flow days of the run off. I think it will be fine in an eskimo roll. These cameras are really awesome, and so easy to use. You can see eskimo rolls with the camera right here, from a GoPro customer in Puget Sound:http://vimeo.com/2597754Surfers are charging the North Shore of Hawaii with GoPro cameras on their boards. The mounting system is bomber. Here's a shot of pro surfer John Maher getting piped at Puerto Escondido, Mexico, with a GoPro. This photo was shot with the camera in auto photo every 2 seconds mode:http://www.goprocamera.com/images/New_Graphics/John-Maher-GoPro-Puerto-Shacked-1.jpg

Shell = yes.You need to go directly to the manufacturer for the instructionsThe housing is polycarbonate and waterproof to 200'. Packaging says 100' but extensive testing has shown performance to 200'+. Here's a video of a motorcycle rider crashing and his GoPro is protected by the housing...and still filming:http://vimeo.com/2434772The buttons are stainless steel. The glass lens of the housing is thick tempered glass. It's top quality construction.
