Giro Animas Helmet - 2009

Huge vents and aggressive styling combine to make the Giro Animas Helmet the choice of long-distance dirt riders everywhere. While your friends are squinting at the sun in their road helmets, or sweating in under-ventilated dirt jumper lids, you'll be making dust for their eating pleasure because of the Animas' 27 Wind Tunnel vents and P.O.V. adjustable visor. Fear neither the washboard fire road descent nor the hairy singletrack—Giro's Roc Loc 4 fit system keeps the Animas grafted to your skull like white on rice.

Bottom Line: Eat trails for breakfast and competition for lunch—wear the Giro Animas Helmet.

Deceptive colors

The red helmet has very red flames, not orange ones as shown here.

The colors here are a lot closer...

I'm a mountain biker by heart but am working on putting together some road biking gear. What, if any, drawbacks would you see using this helmet for mountain biking as well as road biking?

I don't have this exact model, but I love my Giro helmet. I use it for the road and for off-road and it works great for both.I'm not sure the red/white flames would work on the road, what would you wear with it? ok..ok...I guess every color of this helmet would transition between road and mountain flawlessly. The visor even detaches for getting the most out of the Animas helmet's aerodynamics. KC

Great helmet for the money

This is my first Giro helmet and I love it. The helmet fits well on my head and adjusts easily. I strap on a light for night rides and this helmet accomodates it well.

The visor is very much removable. I wouldn't pop it in and out every day (you might break one of the tabs), but you can definitely take it off every now and then.My visors always break off anyway. Gotta keep my face out of the dirt.

Very Comfortable.

This is one of the best helmets I've had. The fitting system locks this helmet on your head well, and keeps it from moving at all. It tightens and loosens just like most rock climbing helmets. The padding in the helmet could be a little better, but not really a problem. Visor comes on and off fairly easily. Plenty of ventilation keeps your head cool even on summer rides.

Sucks, sucks, sucks!

I bought this helmet foe my wife and I am very disappointed. It is of very LOW quality compared to my Fox Flux helmet. Everything about the Giro screams cheap, the "ROC LOC" system is horrible, it hangs down on the sides of the helmet and scrapes your ears and is hard to adjust, the clamps on the straps below the ear are constantly twisting and dig into your jaw no matter how you adjust them, the straps themselves are mounted to the center inside and are clumsy to get a hold of, the front straps are held in by two plastic "sticks" that come out of the top of the helmet. The bottom edge of the styrofoam is not protected by the shell. I regret buying this helmet, the Fox Flux is ten times the helmet.
