Gerber Gator Combo Axe II w/ Saw - 2008

The Gerber Combo Axe II with Saw features an axe with a hollow handle into which a saw fits. Gerber made the axe handle out of nearly indestructible glass-filled nylon, so it's lightweight and durable. This handle is long for improved striking force and has a textured rubber coating to keep your hands glued to it for safe chopping. The durable wood saw slides into the hollow section of the handle, and magnets hold it in place. The Combo Axe II is an easy-to-pack, two-in-one addition to your camping or trail maintenance gear.

Bottom Line: Get an axe and saw in one easy-to-carry item with the Gerber Combo Axe II.

Great concept, but...

Before i took it out, i gave it a few good shakes to make sure the saw wouldn't come out, and it seemed to be ok. But the first few whacks i took at an actual piece of wood, the saw rattled inside the handle, came flying out, and refused to stay in. The magnet that holds the saw in was just too weak. So im guessing that it must not have been designed for chopping with the saw inside, but i guess its good for saving space on the move.

Can the Back end be used as a hammer. For example hammering in stacks?

Yes I believe it can, although I don't know that I would use it for much more than hammering in stakes.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas, but ended up giving it to him 3 weeks early so he could use it on our Christmas Tree.
He loves it; easy to handle and not too heavy.
He cant wait to use it this summer!!!!

Does the saw bounce around inside the handle when you are chopping

Does the saw bounce around inside the handle when you are chopping wood with the axe? I read that magnets hold the saw in place, but I'm curious how secure the saw is when the axe is actually being used.

Bring on the earthquake

I purchased this set to include in my emergency pack. You know, in case I encounter a natural disaster and have to flee quickly. I figured this combo would be adequate to fend off fallen trees, competitive badgers, and incompetent FEMA employees. The hardware looks up to all three tasks.
