Garmin Edge 205 GPS Unit

Always know where you're going and how far you've gone—among many other features—on your next bike ride with the Garmin Edge 205 GPS Unit. This cycle computer-style GPS snaps right onto the included bike mount and tracks your speed, distance, time, calories burned, altitude, and more. The high-sensitivity GPS receiver finds your position under tree cover and in canyons, not just out on the open road, while the Virtual Partner feature lets you race against a computer-generated competitor or your own previous workouts. The included Garmin Training Center software lets you create workouts, manage and download courses, and analyze your workout when you're finished, and MotionBased technology lays Google maps over your course to show where you rode.

Bottom Line: Take the Garmin Edge 205 GPS Unit with you and turn your next ride into truly effective training.

Save your pesos and buy a 705 or 605

The newer models are tons better than the 205 or 305 model. The new ones have a click stick for easy navigation and data entry. Plus a color screen. The 205 and 205 are smaller, but not that much.

Don't get this system

By:
November 12, 2007

I had 3 of this device before I gave up completely! The GPS works great, but the reason I wanted it was I could upload and track it on my PC. Everytime I tried the whole thing froze up. I had to keep returning them. Finally I opted for a standard Bike computer and figured I could manually track my progress.

Works Excellent on Several Computers.

By:
June 3, 2008

I'm amazed at how well the GPS function works. It detects satellites inside my home which is better than my old Garmin Vista. It's consistently within 0.05 percent of my bike computer so I trust the accuracy.

I'm not sure about the problem the reviewer Skelty had, but I've interfaced the unit with three other computers without any problems and can download my progress. I can see how I've improved over the same route, or see how my progress is slowed by a head wind. It also works well for day hikes to show your path and record speed and miles. The only issue for hikes is that the battery life is limited to one day.

Write your question here...My son would like a GPS unit for mountain

Write your question here...My son would like a GPS unit for mountain biking. He would like to be able to enter his course in order to access it for future rides. He rides in thickly wooded areas with a trail system. However, because of the vast number of trails, he would like to be able to ride the same route twice. Any product recommendations? Thank you.

I'm not certain about being able to manually enter a course in advance, but I know you can save a ride and access it again. There are also 3rd party sites like geoladders.com where people can upload their rides... from there, the route files can be transferred to the GPS before he hits the trail. Personally, I have the Edge705 and absolutely love it! I haven't had any trouble with GPS signals, and never had trouble saving my ride data with either the Motionbased.com or Garmin Connect software. Hope that helps...-Sully

Great for the hills

By:

I love doing big climbs on the road bike and this makes it so I don't sound like I'm exaggerating to my cycling pals. I have the 305 with HR monitor and cadence and those parts were kind of spotty on how well the work, but the gps itself is awesome.
