Not Impressed

i am not a fan. the taste is not very good. certainly doesn't make you want to drink more like nuun does. the fact that the sugar is fructose is also a negative for me (fake man made sugar).

i've had some of these little packets in my closet for the last 7 years! that is because i couldn't bring myself to drink them. i just threw them away. yuck.

FYI: Fructose is the sugar that is in fruit. Maltodextrin, however, is manmade.

GU2OOOOOH!

I'm a fan of the light not too sweet flavor. And it seems to help keep the engine running and helps with recovery. It has a hard time diluting in water sometimes and gets sticky and clumpy, which requires some vigorous shaking.

This stuff is a decent product. They were giving samples away at the EMS up here and I have to say its not too bad. It doesnt have a great taste but after drinking only water for a couple months on the trail Im sure it would taste amazing. PLus it does help you stay hydrated

The taste isn't as good as some others and you have to get the mixture just right.

Very effective

Does a great job keeping your salts up without loading you down with sugar. Has a nice tart taste so when you are running you don't have to deal with that overly sweet taste that makes most of us want to hurl.
Also great if you are hungover.

Poor Performer

I used this in a pinch on a trail run on the Kalalau Trail (Na Pali Coast) and a couple other times around the big debut. The flavor is light at first, but really not very good. It does contain fructose, which is a well known offender causing stomach upset. To clarify, fructose is a natural sugar (like sucrose/maltose/galactose/lactose etc) and is found in fruits. I think what Matt is getting at is that it is a refined/processed simple sugar that is cheap and burns fast. Small doses are okay, as in GU, but I would stay faaaaaaar away from the high fructose corn syrups in many drinks!

Only drank maybe 3/4 of a Nalgene bottle full of this stuff for a 10 mile ocean swim and it kept me completely hydrated. I highly recommend it.

Yeah I concur, the flavour isn't over the top but is pleasant and it not loaded with sugar that makes you feel like you have fur on your teeth by the end of the ride. very happy. its as good as Gu's energy gels.

GU20 - good energy, not great taste

By: Backcountry.com Employee

This drink is good for keeping the electrolytes replenished and also some liquid energy. But I find the taste to be marginal at best, although I've only tried the orange flavor. It is not sweet enough for my palate, so I had to add sugar, which made it taste pretty good. The gels taste much better.
