GSI Outdoor Ultralight Dualist Cook System - 2008

GSI Outdoors created the intelligent Ultralight Dualist Cook System to solve the problems of previous minimilast cook sets. A folding handle locks while cooking and secures the whole set when you're on the trail. A Lexan lid has a built in strainer and sip hole, and lighter-than-titanium Halulite withstands scratches and evenly conducts heat. A self-standing stuff sack doubles as a kitchen sink to hold dishwater for when you're done eating your chicken corn chowder.

Bottom Line: A smart solution for backcountry chefs. Now, what time is dinner?

A+++++++

Excellent cookware, i have no complaints whatsoever. This set is all you'll ever need for two people. Lightweight, but a heavyweight contender. I couldn't imagine camping without it. The pot itself heat up great and cools down quickly so you don't have to worry about burns after your done cooking, ultra tough. The two bowls and two cups were just right plus the fact that the little stuff sack can be filled with water to wash your hands in afterwards is a plus.

This is the best cookset I've ever owned. Extremely light without having to sacrifice any comforts. I'd recommend this to everyone.

Can anyone tell me how to use this properly, someone mentioned that you cannot place it on open flames. Most of my cooking is done on open flames.

Short answer is the only part that should be heated is the bottom and open fire cooking is not a good idea, however if you scoop out the hot coals from the fire to cook on I think you should be fine.Hope that helps. Here is what I found by digging around on the CSI website. Due to the lightweight nature of outdoor cookware and the difficult to control, high temperature design of most backpacking stoves, the pieces are much easier to overheat than your pots and pans at home. When cooking, never heat GSI Outdoors cookware to extreme temperatures or allow it to boil dry. Typically, medium and low heat work best. Pot and Strainer lid intended for stovetop use only. Do not allow the flames from your stove to extend beyond the base of the cookware. Not for use with microwave ovens, conventional ovens or open campfires. Handle may become hot when cooking. Always use caution when grasping handle. Never expose handle to direct flame.

Simple, Functional, Good Buy

By:
November 17, 2008

This is a good mix of functionality and durability for the price. You essentially have 4 bowls to use if you don't care for the "mugs". Not as light as Titanium, but much more durable and usable. I have minimized this set for solo use, and it is a better buy than the GSI Solist kit.

Simply smart!

By:

Wow! Lightweight, without that flimsy feel. Locking handle makes for easy and comfortable pouring through the Lexan strainer holes. My favorite feature is the insulated cups with the sipper tops. I still smile at the memory of hot coffee kept warm on a windy beach camp night. .... The measurement markers inside the cups are a little difficult to see/.However, not a big deal for us. The way this unit is put together - nestling, with available storage space, is simply smart. Great size, great product, and a lifetime warranty! I plan to will this set to my grandkids, but, till then, I am keeping it for myself. Thank you GSI for making this granny smile.

Yep...it's good

This is my first, and likely last, cook set for backpacking. It's durable, and there doesn't even appear to be anything that could break. The way it all fits together is brilliant. I packed oatmeal and spices in the bowls to make use of every cubic inch. The sip lids are just great. This product is functionality defined.

EFFICIENT

I used this for archery hhunting this year and just loved it. Being able to put my stove inside really saves on space and makes the set worth its weight in gold, even though it is very light for a two person setup.

Very compact, heats up quickly and cleans up with no fuss. This is a great system for 2 people, although I used it with 2 adults and a child. I recommend the mug system for younger children because it does not spill much, also keeps the bugs out of your food and drink.

Buy it!

My husband & I purchased this set for a backcounrty pack trip into Grand Teton National Park & it worked great! It's light weight, suited our needs and washed out quick and easy. This product was desinged well so it stacks into a small stuff sack that can be used as a kitchen sink. It's so compact and light that it didn't matter who packed it because the weight wasn't an issue. I wouldn't use any other cook set on the market. If you have more than two people, I'd recommend the larger GSI cook system so you can eat comfortably.

Light and efficent

By:
September 19, 2008

I've used the cook system once now on a two-day backpacking trip. It worked great. Lightweight and packs itself up cleverly. They advertise fitting a fuel canister and backpacking stove inside. This works for canisters less than 220 grams and stove like the MSR Pocket Rocket.
All in all a great product.
