GSI Outdoor Glacier Stainless Coffee Percolator

The day doesn't start until coffee's made and the day will start a lot better with GSI's Glacier Stainless Conical Coffee Percolators. GSI uses all stainless steel percolator inserts for the best tasting joe yet. Even the perc-view window is made from Lexan which contributes no taste. It's available in 8 cup and 14 cup sizes depending on how large your group is. Get it to make coffee at home or use it exclusively at the campsite; either way you won't be disappointed.

Bottom Line: Life giving coffee.

Never going back to any electric coffee maker

By:
May 4, 2009

I accidently broke my electric coffee makers glass carafe and decided to get an old fashioned coffee percolator. I loved that backcountry.com gives a lifetime warranty and that the entire percolator is stainless steel except the lids perk-viewer.

I was at a loss however when I found there were no instructions for brewing with the percolator. The percolator actually let me know when the coffee was finished percolating: it actually stops percolating and there is a heavenly aroma.

I use my small gas burner and make sure the flame stays under the percolator. Once it starts percolating I turn the flame lower just a bit lower and just let it perk away gently on its own until it actually stops. By the time it stops perking there is a heavenly aroma that lets everyone know IT’S COFFEE. Once it starts perking it takes about 15 -20 minutes: worth every minute! I enjoy flavored coffee beans and grind my own. I either use one or mix 2 and three different flavors for really custom coffee – absolutely delicious. I recommend grinding somewhat coarsely. By the way, I read one reviewer state they used a coffee filter and so do I; what a wonderful idea and it helps keep grinds from getting into the coffee. Just use regular filters and snip a little hole in the center to get it down the stem of the basket.

I can’t say enough good things about this percolator. It makes the absolute best coffee I have ever had. I never realized that coffee could taste so wonderful. I also never knew that coffee could be so oily; which is a good thing because the percolator has brewed the coffee properly and all of the coffees deliciousness can be enjoyed. I never experienced such a cup of coffee from any electric and am never going back to any electric coffee maker. I highly recommend this coffee percolator from backcountry.com. Anyone who gets one of these percolators will be thankful each time they drink a cup of coffee.

Again, I may need about a half-hour to make coffee but it’s worth every minute of waiting when you take your first sip. Have no doubts about choosing this coffee percolator you will be very happy you picked it and may never want to go back to electric coffee makers. I hope this review and info helps others out there in making up their minds. I have been using my percolator now for several weeks and stand by this review to be accurate and honest.

outstanding unit -

one flaw; the inside rim at the top of the body is VERY sharp & makes washing a bitch & painful.

It should be folded over for a smooth edge.

No excuse for the sharp edge - redo it then send me one -

A fine product, well made and robust for heavy... pounding. One comment though, no instructions were included on how to make a good brew for us foreigners not used to making coffee this way.

You have two options. You can call GSI at 800-704-4474 and I am sure they would gladly work something out with you. Or you can just return the item to Backcountry.com and they will send you a new one no questions asked.

Well made...good java

By:
August 17, 2006

Awesome, solid and strong. Used it on a cooking grate, hanging from a campfire tripod, on a Coleman stove, and just sitting directly in the embers of the fire. Tarnished a bit after the first use, but brewed a mean cuppa joe. Make sure you use coarse-ground coffee unless you dont mind a little grit in the bottom of your mug. And remember to use a potholder (duh). If you need a few cups of coffe to get your engine warmed up in the morning, this is great. And tastes hella better than instant. Fun to watch it perc, too.

Great pot! I'm really happy with my purchase , I bought 14 cup, just one thing the pot doesn't have a measuring mark for water,
which would be a nice feature.
