Giro 2008 Shiv Audio Helmet - 2008

Giro teamed up with top riders like Antti Autti, Gretchen Bleiler, and Andy Finch to bring you the low profile, lightweight Shiv Audio Helmet. This park and pipe oriented helmet features a polycarbonate shell to save your skull when things go wrong, and eight Super Cool vents to keep you cool while you hike a rail or booter. Two rare earth magnets provide the stealthiest goggle clip ever, and the interior subliner let’s you customize your fit or make room under the helmet for a beanie or goggle strap.

Bottom Line: Lightweight, low-profile park and pipe protection.

Unfortunately not. The regular Giro Shiv is, but there are no L or XL in the audio version.

Nice low pro style, but audio's trash!

By:
December 8, 2009

This helmet has a sick low profile, but the built-in "tune-ups" ear pads are total garbage. I have a G9 helmet that I've used with the Bluettooth system and the audio is light years beyond the Shiv Audio. Was pretty bummed because I thought the sounds would be even tighter with cords vs BT, but it's actually worse--far worse! Now I'm torn because the style of the Shiv is dope, but the audio quality is beyond booty...

The skullcandy cord that came with the helmet was SHIT, at least on my model. I grabbed the aux cable from my car, however, and it cleaned up the audio in a hurry. I dunno if it was just my cable or if they're all like that, but you can fix it with a six dollar cable from Radioshack

Helmet is RAD!

By:
January 4, 2009

This helmet it the best I have ever had or tried on for that matter. The first thing i love is the audio system that is set up in it. It has a rad adjustable volume and you can also turn everything on or off with this little controller. The second and best thing is the lightness, I cant even tell that i am wearing it when I am riding. The third and final thing is that this helmet protects your head. I hit my head so hard on a tree yesterday that it dented the helmet, saved me from a concussion and everything on it still works great. I love this helmet. I wear it with a small beanie underneath otherwise it would be a little too cold.

I find that all Giro ear pads feel stiff normally, but the audio doesn't really add to it. And they are still just as comfortable as the regular ones.

Is the audio control controllable wit gloves/mitts or is it more

Is the audio control controllable wit gloves/mitts or is it more of a naked hand endeavor? Where is the control? On the cord? On the ear pad?

No, the audio's built in.--- Actually, according to the Giro website, they just add their "TuneUps system": http://www.giro.com/site/#/product/snow/audio/shiv/
