Giro Tuneups - 2007

There's nothing like a little hip hop to help your flow in the park, which is why Giro offers the Tuenups Audio System. Swap out the earpads on your Giro helmet for Tuneups audio earpads and ride to the soundtrack of your choice. This Giro audio system installs in a snap without tools and won't compromise the fit, feel, or warmth of your Giro helmet. When you get on the lift, use the inline mute button to turn off your tunes and talk about how epic your line was. Giro included a travel case that holds either 10 CD's or your audio player. The standard audio plug-in is compatible with iPods, iRivers, CD-Players, and any portable music player with a standard 3.5mm jack.

Bottom Line: Stomp your tricks listening to your favorite tunes with the Giro Tuneups Audio System.

Only if it has a standard 3.5 mm jack, and you are using it for music. You need one of the other kits if you want something to have music and a phone plug.

Good Addition

By:
June 10, 2009

I added these to my G10 helmet and used them all last season. They worked well for me with no sound problems. And they still keep your ears warm. The only problem I had was fumbling around trying to connect the cord into the earpad while wearing the helmet (I like to leave the cord running through my jacket at all times so you just connect ipod and helmet and have tunes). You can't see what you're doing and the connector can get moved around inside the earpad so you have to get just the right angle. Otherwise great.

I know that everyone here is saying that these work with the G10, fuse, G9, etc. but do they work with the old nine.9? I know that its basically the same helmet as the G9 just an older model, but I want to buy something and deal with sending it back and everything

Not impressed.

By:
December 30, 2008

I was a little hesitant to purchase these since my helmet model (Encore) was not listed in the product info but was reassured when I read the comments that these worked on all Giro helmets. The earflaps do not fit well in my helmet ant here is no way to secure them to the helmet or the strap at all. The sound is good and it is nice to not have head phone under my helmet. Also, the clip that holds the volume control to your jacket broke the first day I skied with it and now it just hangs there. I'll probably keep them and just sew them to my helmet straps so I don't have to worry about losing them but I'm not as thrilled as I had hoped I'd be. When I need a new helmet, I'll remember to splurge for one that already has the headphones in it.

Just a great product for Giro helmets. The thought of smashing an ear bud into my skull due to a solid wreck always bugged me. The ear pads are just as warm as the original and the in-line mute/volume is really nice.

Meh

By:
January 9, 2009

I agree with the previous review. I bought a couple as gifts and one for myself. It's great for the one helmet it happens to fit, the others are jerry-rigged and a little funky. Sound is good, but clip broke the first morning and one channel goes in and out, probably a sloppy fit for the jack. Good for the price, but more hassle than it is worth.

No snaps, but loops to put the chinstrap through - just like the stock pads on an 08/09 G10.

Fit in helmut fine but both channels do not work

By:
January 26, 2009

The fit is fine in the helmut (recommended). However, both channels do not work at the same time. Tried in different iPod devices with the same result. If the mini-jack is rotated then it will switch to the other channel/side but both did not work at the same time. Have returned for exchange.

Glorious

By:
February 2, 2009

I love the tune ups. Ear pads snap in easily, and the sound is fine. I have not experienced any of the sound problems that others have in other reviews. I will say this you need to push in the connection to the ear pad hard. It snaps in to stay tight. If you dont push it in you will only get one channel of sound.

Now let's be realistic, every one of us had snapped headphones on the slopes. No headphones can stand up to a hard slam. For 20 bucks, this is a cheap way to rock tunes in your helmet.

You pull the chin strap out of the ear flaps, and then you just pull out the ear flaps from the helmet. They're held in with a plastic press-fit clip. Sometimes you have to pull pretty hard.
